May I just issue a word of warning when it comes to voting in SCD.

I know many of you will be voting on your favorite dancing teams to keep them from the bottom two, but be careful that you are not to over zealous in your voting.

Remember the judges have the last say and I firmly believe that neative voting, popularity against dancing ability will see the loss of some of your fav couples as in leading celebrity or pro dancer

Be aware that Kelly, Gabby, or Alesha are not used as weapons by the judges to seperate the wheat from the chaff, as in good or bad dancing.

The judges do not see SCD as a popularity contest for the celebrities or the pro dancers, to them it is a dancing contest, sometimes you will have to pit one of the lesser capable dancing couples against another lesser capable dancing couple (as in the celeb's dancers) whether they are your favs on popularity or not.

I hope this post makes sense, specially when the competition is in fully swing . i.e all couples dancing.

I just wish the voters would vote purely on dance merit NOT popularity OR to get another couple evicted because they don't like them.

On this issue, we really need to take a page out of the DWTS book, at least in america they consistently vote for the dancing rather than the popularity - something the GBP could really learn from.

but then I think that takes us back to a discussion from last series where at the end of each show Tess and/or Bruce would say [paraphrasing] "... vote for your favourite..." where I believe what they should be saying is "... vote for who you think is the best dancer.." which is what the judges are always banging on about.

Sorry, but I don't really understand the point you're making. Do you mean there is no point in voting at all or that we should be voting against people?

..............................................................................................

Why is voting for poularity negative voting.

Lots of SCD fans just vote for their favorite profesional or celeb so for them it is positive voting.

I can't believe that the average SCD viewer /voter is really bothered about siting there calculating which couple to vote for in order to get rid of another one.

I do agree with you, they should be saying vote for the best dancer rather than your favourite.

The whole point of SCD is about popularity and not dancing....

SCD is about 3 things
1...Raising money for Children in Need
2...Entertaining the license paying viewers
3...Taking celebs on a "journey of discovery"

If you vote purely for dancing, then you may as well just watch Pro dancing. It has to be about improvement and personality. None of the "girls" improve that much over the series as most of them dance as part of their careers. (a few noticeable exceptions). All of the "boys" without exception, are like left footed penguins to start with but with tuition and time make tremendous improvement. If you voted only for ability, all of the "boys" would be out before the "girls".

The viewers pay and decide. The judges get paid and should only give comments.

Bad move to give more power to 3 washed up choreographers and 1 experienced ballroom judge.

Hi Mr B - Raising money for Children In Need is your No.1 quite rightly - but if you are paying your own 'phone bill - you vote for who YOU want - regardless of the reason - dancing, your favourite, potential, fun factor, etc etc.

BTW - we don't use the "J" word on these boards - LOL!!

I disagree that the judges should just give their comments. They should also score. If we don't want our favs to go, keep voting so that they are out of the bottom two...

I dont wish to spoil anybodys enjoyment of SCD and I know that most of you enjoy the show for the celebrities, I do too, but as was the case on Saturday Kate got through on sympathy vote and we lost Stephanie.

Tell me of those of you that voted did you do so for the dance or for your fav?

I voted for the dance, which in my opinion was Penny followed by Alesha. If I had voted for my fav then Stephanie would have got my vote, even though her quickstep wasn't too bad.

Jerry Rice, Master P, Jerry Springer and Billy Ray Cyrus were all kept in well past their sell by dates on past US series!

I think they should limit the number of votes per phoneline.

I suspect that the fact that Stephanie was in the bottom two instead of Kate says it all, imo people are still voting for the Pro's and not the dancing.

Either it's a dance competition or a light entertainment programme - it can't be both. I see it and watch it as a light entertainment programme - therefore , if I were to vote, I would vote for who I 'liked' and wanted to keep on watching in further weeks regardless of dancing ability.
If you watch it purely as a dancing competition then you would probably vote for who you thought was the better dancer and get upset when they get voted out for someone 'popular'.

Oh that we could watch pro dancing! Unfortunately it's never shown on tv.

I long for the days of Come Dancing...The likes of Peggy Spencer and formation dancing....Now that was television..Black and white on a 9 inch screen with the presenter describing the colours of the dresses.

LOL LOL

I think, perversely , the GBP voted for Kate in large numbers as a reaction to the Judges being so unpleasant .

I agree with TonyBlair (and I never thought I'd say that!)
How can you have a dancing competition that pits lithe, beautiful girls with clear dancing talent (if not experience) against footballers and snooker players! I like to be enchanted by the discovery that a celebrity I know can actually dance well, but I also like to see the changes over the weeks in those that couldn't dance to begin with but make significant progress. I just think it's all a bit unfair on those who get knocked out first, as they never have the opportunity to show what they can do.

Although I would vote for the dancing if I did vote (I don't), I have nothing against people voting for a couple for other reasons (although tactical/negative voting is cynical & nasty).

It IS annoying when decent couples get booted out before the abominable or merely mediocre ones (Will & Hanna's SCD III exit annoyed me), but tough titties etc.

The elimination should either be decided by the old system or it should be entirely up to the judges (not that I would want the latter); what we have at the moment is a joke.
