BT line-Outgoing ok, but no incoming?

Can anyone help?

I've recently moved into a new property, where the previousl owner didnt use the landline to the house.

I found it, connect myself up with BT. Problem is, I seem to have no problem in calling out from the house, but incoming calls don't get through. When you call, the line sounds like it gone dead (no ring tone).

What could the problem be?

The ceased line connection process at BT means that the only way to avoid the £124.99 connection charge is in cases of bereavement or moving home, otherwise you're stuck wth it.
