I got my email as well, disappointed in the price but a two disk release softens that a bit and of course it's not a combo

I ended up buying the UK release of 300 (same price as US combo version), worth the wait for a standard HD DVD release though.

Just wondering if anyone has got there copy yet, im still waiting Dont no if my postie has been yet, i still have hope i will get it today

Heres a review, seems like it is a good transfer but the reviewer doesnt like blockbuster films
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1110/transformers.html

The review states that there is 5 easter eggs on the hd dvd's, i never relised that they did this, why not just include them in the extras?

Woo hoo, the postie has just been and i got my copy The dvd artwork has optimus on one side and megatron on the other with a white background, it looks very bland. There is a plastic sleeve over the box that has all the disc info on it. Cant wait to watch it.

This is my first Paramount purchase on hd with face off also pre ordered for the end of the month. Good month for Paramount.

So how does it look in HD? I've ordered my copy today alone with 300. Hopefully I will get them this side of the year with the whole postal strike.

The PQ was absoloutly stunning, there seems to be very little grain, if any. This was the first time i watched the film and i was a bit dissappointed by the story.

1. I thought that there was too much time spent on building up the human characters and not enough on the transformers.

2. The robot fights were very lame, short and underwellming.

3. Megatron was always the focal point of every cartoon i watched, for being the evil one but in the film it seemed to me that he was just an extra. The only real megatron scene was when he was fighting optimus and he finger pinged 1 human like a subuteo player

4. The autobots and decepticons always fought over power sources in the cartoon, so was surprised to see that they were not on earth to fight over oil, it would have led to a better human twist in the film and the sequels.

Thats my moans out of the way, i still need to watch disc 2 and watch the film with all the extras on, gps and bot health bars are some that i noticed.

If you liked the film in the cinema then you wont be disappointed, it is a great transfer.

Anyone know if a seqeul has been confirmed yet/started?

Of what i heard, Michael Bay said that Shia LaBeouf has at least two more Transformers films to be in yet.. which states theres definitely a trilogy in the making.

Transformers 2 Plot Summary -

'The auto-bots must now fight a new decepticon ,Maximus prime. Maximus prime wants to catch four minibots to make a weapon of unlimited strength. With the help of Sam wikwicky the auto-bots find one and now they must fight an army of decepticons'

Paramount.
Once they explained to him the situation he withdrew his drink (and blu-ray owning friends) influenced blog postings

Of course the Paramount deal has an 18month timelimit so T2 (oooh) is unlikely to be released until before then and well if we are still asking questions about formats in summer 2009 I would be surprised.

Despite the slap on the wrist, Michael Bay has reaffirmed what he really thinks. His recent comments regarding Paramount's decision to release Transformers only on HD DVD were, "It's short-sighted and it has delayed consumers' moving to HD. As a director, my critical eye is that Blu-ray is where my money is. Consumers are smart, and they are going to wait it out."

Not a great surprise, one huge release was not going to hold it's own against the flood (in a good way) of Blu-ray releases which are being churned out.
You've got to admire Blu-ray even with the farce that is Profile1.1 they identified and acted on the only way to counter the recent HD DVD PR wins as to increase disk releases and the high profile BOGOF Disney promotions.

No one ever accused SONY of being stupid

Taken from the forum..

"Overheard in Bestbuy today:

Customer: Whats the big difference between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray?

Employee: HD-DVD is like having the premium first class suite, on the Titanic. Sure, its nice for a while......"

No idea if it was a genuine comment but it's funny

Not sure I could ever take the guy seriously after his "appearance" in South Park
That said yes consumers are smart, the smartest ones are waiting for only one format to exist despite the fact that the cheaper finalised product is likely to lose thanks to exclusive studios deals with nothing to do with hardware.

Anyhow he'll have his way as long as T2 is scheduled for after the Paramount deal ends.

Is is just me or does the ad for SONY S300 and Blu-ray at the top of the page a dead end (using Firefox 2.0.0.8)?

Tried IE7 and just a blank screen, must be my ISP caching or I've a setting that is conflicting with the advert nature of the link.

My XE1 came back this morning, popped Transformers in and created an account and hey presto all the online stuff is now available. Going to watch the movie later this afternoon (while everyone else is out) with the volume a little higher than I would normally then it's 300 time and Heroes again for it's online stuff

Not too much to be honest.
Once you have created an account you can do the personality test whose results are then uploaded to the account on the Universal website. There are also some downloadable storyboards from the second season plus promo material and trailers for other Universal releases.

All would have been more valuable if I had the net connection working when I got the boxset, mind you the season 2 preview was spoilerific.

The My Scenes feature isn't live until December, that could be interesting if you can access clips from other movies.

Anyone know Movietyme's realistic shipping time?

Had some DVD's despatched today, they say 15 working days (3 weeks) but is that about right?

Depends, they have a number of titles that are same day dispatch from within the UK but for US shipping I look for around a week as normal. That said like any service that relies on the Post Office and overseas shipping things can slip beyond a week. I've used MT for a while now and only have one disk take longer than 15 days from shipping and that figure is only used as a guide to when they can query the PO.
