MiniDV Camcorder Recommendations

I'm thinking of learning how to transfer vhs video to dvd just as a bit of a hobby at first so don't want to spend too much money out just yet. From what I've read so far, I'll need a MiniDV camcorder that has a "pass through" feature on it so that it can convert the analogue signal to digital.

So with that in mind can anyone give me any recommendations that isn't going to cost too much.

I was even thinking of calling into the local cash converters to see if I can pick one up relatively cheaply but am unsure of what to look for.

I'm thinking £150 tops but anything cheaper would be great.

Any ideas?

a dvd/vhs combi with one touch transfer would be easier and cheaper. My camcorder has AV in/out and DV in/out and is supposed to do the ADC (analogue-digital conversion) but for some reason I never get more than the first frame.
