I don't know the result, and i don't want to.

I only click on threads i know won't have the spoiler in.

If Gordon Brown is panicked by the polls going against him, then if enough people complain direct to the Beeb..(It realy annoys them to recieve thousands of e-mails that request a response).. they will listen.

Petitions have a habit of going into the bin but e-mails requesting a response take time and effort to reply to.

Please, please, anyone who is annoyed, frustrated, angry or whatever...COMPLAIN DIRECT

Well said Cally's Mum - I don't want to seem like a broken record but what has this got to do with the BBC??? ... it's about how this forum operates.

I personally would rather have a look and find out the result BUT I'm careful to make sure I don't post on any other threads with the result or any wee accidental hints etc. (I also have to keep it quiet from my other half )

Perhaps it'll calm down when everyones got used to this series format etc. Anyone can make a mistake but hopefully it means you don't do it again.

On the rare occasion that I REALLY don't want to know something, I stay away from the internet completely. I've had things spoiled even on forums that were totally unrelated to whatever it was I was trying to avoid, so I don't take the risk anymore. But that's just me.

This is a transition period for this forum. Before the BBC went and messed with the timings of the results, there was no need for people to mind what they were saying; now there is. It will take a while to adjust - and even then, accidental spoiling will still happen. With the best will in the world, people make mistakes.

I just wouldn't come to an SCD forum before the results have been shown if I truly cared.

I too have had a look - but I would never dream of mentioning it in other threads other than one dedicated to such a purpose. Mainly because I have some common sense (and as a courtesy to others). Also because I have seen how forums operate (not just this one, but, as mentioned, others).

I agree, Kazmson, I fail to see how this is anything to do with the BBC. Yes, their decision has made it possible but it's up to each individual to behave responsibly.

Sadly, this is another trait which appears to be disappearing. The ability to take personal responsibility for one's own actions.

If other threads in other forums (and even the DS forum itself, for other programmes!), can manage it then why should the SCD one be different??? What makes people on this particular forum so dissimilar to all the other forumites elsewhere?

To answer my own question, we're just not used to it with this programme, I guess, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's up to each and every one of us to act responsibly. And for those who claim it doesn't matter - well, it does to a lot of people. Otherwise spoiler threads wouldn't exist on any forum anywhere. And to those who say 'stay out of the forum' - why should we have to?

I reiterate - it's up to everyone to act responsibly. Just because it's new to this forum doesn't mean it's a new concept. It's been working elsewhere for many years. It should work here, too.

Claire, if a thread is entitled "SPOILER - .........." and you do not wish to read spoliers, why do you click open it?

If a room had a sign outside saying "Smoking Room" why would a nonsmoker who disapproves of smoking want to enter?

Consenting adults have fun, but others are free not to consent, not to enter, and are respected for it.

To be fair, Mister, I think Claire's gripe is that the spoilers about who lost have been posted in the ordinary threads (those about the couples), and not just in a dedicated spoiler thread (which is specifically for that purpose and which we all have the option to read or not).

I have read the spoiler thread - because I actually wanted to know who had gone this week. I probably won't make a point of it, but I was particularly interested this time. However, I also saw that the news had been posted in a couples thread just before midnight and despite an attempted retraction by the poster it managed to slip out anyway.

Apologies Claire, I named names after reading your thread title before reading your posting. I now understand you are not against SPOILERS where they are so stated in the thread title,

and support anyone's wish not to be taken by surprise in a thread without SPOLIER warning in the title.

Absolutely I support wholeheartedly peoples right to discuss it as much as they like in a SPOILER thread but to make comments all over the forum so it is possible to stumble across the result anywhere on here seems discourteous at best and downright mean minded at worst.

That is what I find the most 'upsetting' is that it is not the BBC, Simon Cowell, the Sunday papers, etc that are spoiling it for me but people on here who I sort of thought of as pink and fluffy 'friends'

Is it just that I'm a little strange or does anyone else like being referred to as a 'pink and fluffy friend'??? (Please? I don't like to be alone in my strangeness!)

(Of course, my favourite colour is pink and I love 'fluffy' things ... the combination is wonderful!)

I think some people (those that are probably new to forums) may post in other threads as a genuine mistake, but there are some who just do it to upset people.

I would say that it was an unspoken rule on forums that spoilers and all discussions about them should remain in spoiler threads - it's just common sense really.

I'm totally for spoilers myself as I want to know and am impatient. I respect those who don't want to though and think they should be able to come on here without having someone tell them the result.

The problem is some of us don't have much time to check out the threads during the week. I go away a lot on business and Sunday afternoon is the best time to catch up with all the post show views and comments!

I am all for spoiler threads which are clearly labelled but it is very annoying when results appear without warning in general discussion threads.

The new format is not a good change for me and I've sent a message to the BBC saying so. In the meantime I have to decide whether or not to visit the forum on Sundays and risk finding out the result or not participate as much this year. It's a poor choice!

Well, I made the assumption that the thread "No to Strictly Sundays" would be safe to read, as it very obviously has NOTHING to do with the results, and some thoughtless individual had posted the result in there!?!?!

Absolutely fuming now ~ anyone not wishing to know should give that thread a wide berth. And presumably ALL other threads as someone has no doubt found it necessary to post the result in the costumes thread, or the DWTS thread or any other entirely non-result related thread!

I think it is in the "Quick Poll" thread too which was nothing to do with the results last time I went in there but I think has a spoiler in there now - I looked away very quickly - but I guess I saw the result ... so be warned.

Can I ask how we alert the mods about those defying the DS Spoiler policy?

edit: do we just hit the alert button? Obviously wont be doing it until later as I don't want to go back in and have the spoiler I think I saw confirmed before tonights show

Yeah just press the Alert button. They can then remove the post in question. They'll only give out warnings/bans to members if it looks like it was done intentionally or they are a repeat 'offender'.

I've said I am sorry!!! I really am, honest. I just assumed everyone would know, but now that I see some people don't want to know before the show, I will never, ever do it again. Cross my heart.

Off now to do penance....................

trouble is tho that there are that many members it'll be hard to prove someone is a repeat offender so will be hard to 'police'.

I doubt it, most people wouldn't deliberately set out to upset others. When I did it, can't remember which thread, I replied to the thread and ended up saying how gutted i was that X and Y were out. I assumed everyone else had read what I had read. I have been walking round with a hair shirt ever since. May i take it off now please?

at the end of the day its not a hanging offence. big deal people find out the result before they want to. personally i think people are totally ove reacting. if they really didn't want to know the result they'd stay away from the net.

no big deal. i find out the result of a morning and its still as exciting watching the result show even tho i know the outcome.

I think you are assuming that just because you aren't bothered, then it's ok. I agree with previous posters who said that courtesy and taking personal responsibility seem to be dwindling. If it's quite apparent that there are *spoiler* and *non-spoiler* threads, it doesn't take a genius to work out that it matters to some people whether the result is posted or not. Personally I have had the result ruined by stumbling across someone making an apparently innocent comment which gave away the result. No, it's not a hanging offence, but nor is stubbing out cigarettes on your dog - is that acceptable?

If today serves any purpose any purpose at all, it will serve to educate people new to internet forums about what constitutes a SPOILER (i.e. anything yet to be broadcast) and where those should be posted - DS policy being identical to that on most similar forums.

Hopefully next week there wont be a problem, as no-one will be able to say they didn't know/realise, and I guess then we can merrily report as we will 'know' that it has been done deliberately

The BBC Sunday idea cannot possibly work.

Last night the entire forum was in uproar after 10:30 concerning Kate's Fate. Every Kate posting in every Kate thread would have had to be cloaked with SPOILER tags, which would have been impractical as there were so many of them.

For the record, I have not said Kate is staying, I have not said Kate is eliminated.

What?!? How can you compare the two???
