Music choices
In my opinion, there have been several uninspiring choices in the music selected. So much so I find it pretty hard to recall most of what was used last night.
I note on last night's second show, (sorry! I mean today's show) the featured singers will be a boy band. The BBC are obviously chasing the "youf" audience, but I think are doing their main audience a disservice. There are plenty of classic ballroom dance tunes of every era available and why not give the "house band" and singers a shot instead of "boy bands" and "bring them out of the shadows" at the same time? I'd have thought the "cash strapped" BBC might have considered this a way to save some money too. Or would they rather just bleat about how hard up they are? |

If it´s a quickstep, then it has to be Big Band. . DWTS seems to know this, why not SCD? |

Yep, agree.
If it´s a quickstep, then it has to be Big Band. . DWTS seems to know this, why not SCD? It's because, as with "everything" the most important aspect of this show to the BBC is "beating ITV on ratings." They are desperate to get as many viewers as possible for the programme, any sort of viewer. That's why last year you had the nonsense like "McFly" on SCDT2, who looked totally bewildered by it all. Both shows are the poorer for their obsession with this. Yet time and again the BBC will tell us "we don't chase ratings." |

Next week it´s Tango and Jive.
So we´ll have a Tango to Seasons in the Sun, and a Jive to Two Little Boys... ![]() How about something Argentine Latino for one and 40s American for t´other? |

I think the Tango is one of those dances that it made by the music. I remember Pasty and Anton's glorious one which was made all the more wonderful by the more traditional song they chose.
The jive is easier, same with the cha cha. There seem to be may more 'modern' songs that work for it. |

Saying that, I thought 'maneater' by Nelly Furtado was a good Tango song last season. One of the few that worked JMO. Didnt like the use of Stand by Me or Eleanor Rigby though I know some people thought they worked ok.

Eleanor Rigby was a horrible tango choice as was Pretty Woman the year before.
There are some times when songs surprise me though - I remember Colin and Erin's paso to Thriller being one of those such occasions. |

Stange music, strange dress? ![]() Watched DWTS on Friday and was horrified at Cameron and Edytas music for the Tango -all upbeat and smiley the whole way through! Saying that, a clip in the results show told us that the production chooses the music and hands it to the pros each week so there isnt much the DWTS dancers can do about it!

The BBC (bless!) sent one of the pro dancers on to last year's SCDT2, after there'd been a lot of criticism of the music on "the internet forums Claudia loves" and now doesn't dare mention, to say “It was the dancers’ choice of music.”
Yeah! I bet it was "Hobson's choice." There will be a list. The musicians are pro's, but they are all "session players" built round a core of those favoured by the MD. There are also not many of 'em (maybe that's why they keep them in the dark?) and they have to learn to play “together” a lot of tunes in the particular key that suits the singers' voices. The MD will also have to write out (well.. it’s done on a computer now, but it still has to be done) each musician’s part for every tune. I bet they aren't given a lot of time to rehearse either. I've also noticed that the band tend to get better as the series goes on. That's why this band, good as they are will never be as good as the big bands of old, which played the same arrangements of a limited number of tunes in the same keys night after night. |

The pros have to supply a list of music they would like to the BBC I believe, and the BBC either accept or reject the choices and which ones they want. It does seem that whoever has the final say has little or no idea of ballroom and latin dance. Some of the music choices are awful.
Have to add that on a Friday Arlene seems to really like some of the most inappropriate music too, which shows how much she knows really. I agree some dances, like cha cha and jive go well to some pop tracks, but tango and paso in particular I have more of a problem with. |

Hi,
Just popped over from the radio forums. Does anyone know if there is a track listing for the music on last night's show. I loved Sitting On Top Of The World on the Quick Step but one of the Rumba dances (not sure which one) had a great tune but not sure what it was. Can anyone help me ? |

Didn't Will and Hannah leave that week too?
I do remember it being quite horrific which was a shame because he was fairly decent at the technical side of it, it was just utterly ruined by the styling and music. I can totally understand the wish to use modern music and agree with it to in a way - one of the points of SCD is to bring ballroom dancing to the masses as such and show it's not this weird elitist thing stuck in the past. In some dances though very few modern tunes work and the pros (who are the experts here) certainly should have the final say. |
