Trying to make a focusing CD.
Jean Luc Picard

I'm trying to make a focusing CD, to focus a video projector.

I've created a CD with an image (1600X1200) of a white square, with a small black square in the middle.

I've done it in .JPG format, which my DVD player is supposed to support, but when I put the disc in the DVD player, it says it's unsupported.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Res/file size too high?

Never had a problem showing Hi-Res pictures on a DVD player before.

EDIT: I've managed it, by creating an HP Memories disc, with just the one image on it.

You might bear in mind that JPEG isn't really much of a standard, and you might be writing the file in a JPG format the DVD player can't read.

It also sounds unlikely that your projector has that high a resolution?, and your DVD player certainly won't. Why not create a file that matches the DVD players resolution?.

I trust you are finalising the disc in the PC?

Also why not use a full testcard as available on the BBC website?

I just need something with a clearly defined edge, in order to focus the image.

I would suggest that a testcard, which is specifically designed for the purpose, would be far better?.

In the absence of a testcard, as they are rare indeed these days, simply display a teletext page - your attempted test disc sounds about as poor as you could go for?.
