LCD Temporary Screen Burn ?

I got a strange problem that’s just started to affect my Toshiba 37” WLT66 LCD Television.

I have my PC connected to my TV via the 2nd HDMI, and use the PC to watch TV and films that I’ve downloaded from the internet. Just this week after I’ve watched a widescreen movie and go back to normal television, I’m left with a kind of reddish tinge on my screen exactly where the black bars were in the movie. It only happens when I watch a movie and not a TV show, so something with a 16/9 ratio that lasts well over an hour.

After an hour of watching normal TV/Sky etc the tinge disappears and it’s driving me Nuts. Has anyone else had a similar problem? And does anyone know what may cause this?. Rather strangely it only seems to happen when using VLC player.

Thank in advance

we sometimes get it in the shop although very rarely. its lcd temporary screen burn.
have a look on the menu as some will have an option that 'resets' the screen ie washes it out, getting rid of any burning.
however i can only say i have ever seen this on a sharp.
sorry i cannot be any more help

It's not screen burn, it's called image retention and is quite common with modern LCD tv's.

As the above post said there is usually a screen wipe function built into the tv to clear it, if not then just tune your tv into an analogue channel with no picture (static) and leave it for 10 minutes

So is this image retention damaging the LCD screen in the long run

from what i have seen, no. but that would be display screens that are on 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for about 12months, rather than the life of a screen, so could not really say definatly
