£600 to spend: 37" - 42" LCD

As the title says. I have £600 to spend and want an LCD TV in that size range.

Best I've been able to find, as far as I can tell anyway, is a Sony KDL40U2000U 40" LCD at £600 in Richer Sounds.

Anyone know of a better value TV at this price point?

Currently only have SD sources (apart from the laptop which will be getting connected up for watching movies). Plan on having Sky HD installed ASAP and will add either an Xbox 360 or PS3 at some point in the future along with the associated HD drive of whichever one I end up with. I know the Sony only has one HDMI port (at least, thats what the spec on RS site says) but I assume splitters are a fairly easy option here ... I don't mind using one as long as it won't ruin the signal.

Would prefer LCD to plasma and I watch a lot of sport so response time has to be decent.

Would prefer to be able to buy in the high street if possible but will look at online if the deal is good enough.

Cheers!

Have a look at the latest TV offer from ALDI, £600 with a stand, £570 without.

I'm surprised you'd prefer LCD to plasma especially given that you watch a lot of sport. What is your reason for this as it might help to recommend a TV?

An HDMI splitter cannot ruin the signal, since it's digital if the signal gets though it's ok.

Figured the splitter would be OK, though it worth an ask though. No problems with signal bleed on HDMI splitters then?

Reasons (feel free to shoot them out the water if they're garbage) for going LCD over plasma:

1. Power consumption.
2. Longevity. (My understanding is plasmas do have a shorter expected lifespan than LCD)
3. Heat! My mate got a Phillips 42" plasma a couple of months back and while the screens aren't griddle pans like early models were but the heat that comes out the back of it seems to be a lot!

As I say, I'd prefer LCD but I'm not tied to it. If anyone knows of a good deal on a plasma at that size and price point, I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks.

.... gets a few recommendations and is in my price/size range.

Better or worse than the Sony?

Cant someone bring out a Plasma screen that also intergrates with your hot water system. Then I could watch the latest HD offering and my wife could have a nice warm shower!
