RDR-HXD870 DVD+RW to PC

When I try to import a programme recorded on a DVD+RW disc I get errors in all my PC software and even trying copying the DVDs contents to my PCs HDD fails.

If however I use DVD-RW discs I can import the programmes with no problems.

Is this a problem with the recorder or the type of DVDs used?

I am using HX910 with +RW disks without any problem. It could be that you PC drive does not see the +RW disks. Also, check with other software such as DVDdectrypter if it can see the disk in the drive. You can also copy it using the same software.

Regards.

I have 4 PCs all with DVD-+RW drives and all of them would not import the video without errors

First, you need to isolate the problem. Is the problem on the PC, DVD recorder or the +RW disk. Is the disk is seen by windows XP and showing all files ? If yes then disk is recongised by DVD writer and windows. If this is the case, either the disk is faulty, or format is not recoginsed by the software your are using. Try different +RW disk and also try dvd decrypter (free).

What softwares are you using ?

I'm using Vista Ultimate.

The files can be seen by Windows Explorer. Though I cannot drag and drop to the HDD without errors.

I'm using Ulead VideoStudio 11 as my editing package.

I have tried "Windows DVD maker" with no luck.

I've used the same media on an older Sony DVD STB with no problems.

According to the Sony manual (page 8), DVD+RW discs get automatically formatted in +VR (Video Recording) mode, whereas -RW discs can be formatted in either -VR or Video mode (the default is a menu option). I can't remember all the differences, but I think VR mode discs don't get automatically finalized.

It may be that you haven't finalized the discs, or that your PC can't handle +VR mode ?

My manual says that DVD+RW +VR discs are automatically finalised.

Perhaps it's a bit too simple?, but why not just use -RW discs?.

DVD recorders ARE weird, strange things happen, and there seems little in the way of standard formats.

I have loads of +RW and they are faster than my -RW

Anyhow I have found a solution

If I record in +RW and edit the disc in "Cyberlink PowerProducer v4.0" this converts them into a +VR format that my target software "YUlead VideoStudio 11" can read

Obviously earlier Sony DVD recorders had a slightly different format when using +RW discs.

Looks like I need to enter a support ticket for UVS11.
