Help with decoder/freesat

Hi all,
I am not sure if i picked the right category here so bear with me.

What i would like is a freesat decoder and a pvr (as i don't want to pay for sky+, sky are v annoying)

I had a decoder but it's not performing correctly, so my first question: Does anyone have/know of a cheapish sky decoder for sale?

Second, I would like to tape sky freesat and watch another freesat channel, is that possible? (i cannot get freeview in my area ), i do have the appropriate freesat card.

I was looking at the pvr's, any good recommendation for around £100 or so?
How can i tape from freesat on a program link, i saw a post regarding phantom +, is it any good? does it work etc? any experiences?

Cheers for all your help.

I suggest you wait until next year for BBC FreeSat to start, suitable PVR's should become available then.

But the answer is not really what i was looking for, can anyone else help.

Ebay is always a good place for both new and used SKY digiboxes so that is a good place to start. Since they are only single tuner models you would have to buy two and link one to the tv and the other to the VHS/DVDr then to the TV for what you want, SKY+ is so much easier but has a subscription if you only use it for FTA/FTV.

There are no practical DVR solutions for Dsat which combine multipule tuners, decryption of the FTV channels and no-subscription in your price range, sorry

As Nigel says this should be sorted sometime next year when Freesat launches and CH4 will probably go FTA, Five may remain FTV for another year though.

Never really bothered with Phantom type devices before I got SKY+, my VHS controlled the digibox via RF so only had to set the VCR and it did the channel swapping, very good system.

Thanks Jarrat for the response.

So lets supposed i have my new sky decoder and want a pvr, i presume this is doable? but i would still have to tape what i watch is that correct?

It's possible but a two box single tuner setup lacks much of the simplicity and functionality of the combined twin tuner DVR's that are sold for Freeview, SKY and VM.
Hook up a SKY digibox to say a DVDr with a hard drive (instead of a VHS) then you will get better quality recordings but with only one SKY tuner you can not watch another satellite channel at the same time.

It's not an elegant solution but if you are sure Freeview is a no go then two SKY digiboxes with freesatfromsky cards will do the job BUT you need two independent LNB feeds to make them work.

Have you checked when your analogue service ends?

Also, it is worth having the "Viewing" box a Sky+, and the recording box a standard Digibox. That way the remotes won't interfere with each other :=)

If you choose your recording device carefully, then setting a programme to autoview should fire off the recorder (works with my steam driven VHS)

He doesn't have a freeview signal, Niall.

Jarrak has described the only real non-sub satellite 2-channel set up: yes, it's Heath robinson but would do the job.

Add in an 'autoview' recording device and your away.
