On some networks you have to listen to the entire message then either save or delete it before the icon will go away.

Dont ask..........I contacted Virgin Customer Services and what a waist of time. They sent a message to my phone to remove the icon then when someone left a message it then didnt display. Call them again and the reveresed happened when I didnt have a message the icon was displaying. Checked the sim with another one too same was happening. Virgin have sent out a new sim card as they think it could be a dodgy sim card lets hope. To me I still think its a network issue where a message is not being sent to my phone as soon as I have a message

You didn't answer if it was a Nokia or not.

I have had exactly same problems with virgin on a Nokia 1112 - they are looking into the problem.

My phone was a LG phone. However Virgin have sent me out a brand new sim card and it does the trick. One thing I noticed beforehand if you want to check is if you call your mobile number my phone use to say "Welcome to the TMobile voicemail service for"... now it says "Welcome to the Virgin voicemail service for..>" Now get the correct icons.

yep, that's the problem - if you are diverted to the Tmobile voicemail service rather than Virgin then it seems as though you don't get icon alerts. ring virgin, tell them you're being put through to the Tmobile service and they should fix it. they did for me.
