Frizzy Hair advice!!
I am at the end of my tether......I am cursed with thick wiry wavy hair which is a nightmare to tame. I have tried everything, GHD straightners etc but nothing seems to cure it like a professional blowdry. I have asked about Yuko professional straightening however as my hair is coloured its a no go......any advice?

Best advice would be to leave your hair for now and definitely don't keep colouring it, that probably makes it more frizzy, anyway.
Then, when you have 'virgin' hair (no treatments, colouring etc.) you'll have so many more options of things you can do to it. It might even be in a better condition so you don't need to straighten it to keep it under control!

This site changed my life. I resisted my natural red curls all my life, and spent years trying to tame them. I found this site and picked up loads of tips on how to care for curly hair - it changed my life and taught me to embrace my curlyness, since i changed the way I care for my hair I get loads of comments. NC.com is for all curly types from slightly wavy to afro! Pm me if you like!

Curls are lovely, don't fight them, work with them. There are all sorts of products out there to define the curls and avoid the frizz.
I have pretty much straight hair. Wavy/curly hair is so much more interesting. |

My hair is fine but goes frizzy on top. It also gets curly if I allow it to grow. This is what works for me.
After washing it - do not rub it madly with a towel - just squeeze out the worst of the water with the towel wound round your head. Have it trimmed and shaped regularly and keep it short. Growing it is a definite no no if it already tends to go wild (unless you have lots of time to waste in the mornings taming it). Invest in a tube of John Frieda's Shine Shock. Add a blob to the palm of your hand and gently rub through WET hair. Then style as normal - and if possible allow to dry on it's own working it to the style you want it using your fingers. It's good stuff and is not greasy or scented and does not weigh the hair down. |

Have you tried the Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo and the conditioner for coloured/highlighted hair - I find it works very well - have similar type hair to you, also coloured. Blow-drying is usually a disaster for me - much better to let it dry naturally. When I was a poor student I used Comfort fabric conditioner and slept with my swimming cap on! I prefer the Herbal Essences now - the ones I'm using now are in orange bottles and smell quite nice too.

Colouring and straightening will strip your hair of the moisture that it needs! |

Hi Redjay, naturallycurly.com is great for product reviews...but don't you find the American bias a bit frustrating!?

Thanks for posting the website Redjay, I also have naturally curly hair and I have to get up at least half an hour earlier a day to straighten it. I'm trying to grow it for my wedding and I spend all this time straightening it and then walk to walk and it just frizzes up!

Stop playing with straighteners, they won't help you long term.
V05 hot oil every second wash. Never use 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioners. Always use conditioner unless you are using the hot oil treatment. Brush your hair when it's full of conditioner to get the tugs out, it's better than fighting with it later. Rinse your hair with cold water after washing. It's not pleasant but it makes quite a startling difference. If you can, avoid blow drying your hair altogether. Much better to just towel dry it, never scrub it dry though. If you absolutely have to blow dry your hair then use a diffuser, invest in a hairdryer with a cold setting and try not to make a habit of it. Try to keep colouring your hair to an absolute minimum, ideally don't use anything involving peroxide or ammonia at all. I have naturally curly hair. It can get a little wild, but a bit of care and attention makes the difference between shiny spirals and ringlets and mad frizz. The only styling product I use on my hair is a bit of mousse to calm it down. I quite like tresemme, but I don't stick exclusively to it. The trouble with having curly hair is that it really needs to be in excellent condition at all times, you won't get away with abusing it as much as someone with straight hair can. |

I couldnt use the oil it would make my hair too heavy, I do however condition it every wash. I find that as the season change so do the needs of my hair.
I never blow dry or towel dry my hair, i always leave it to dry naturally, I use a wide tooth comb to get out any tangles first. I may rake through upside down any of the following depending on how my hair is at the time : Blended beauty frizz pudding, jessicurl coils, avon curl extender, or pink boots curl creme. I then leave it and do not touch until dry. It is really hard not too sometimes. If I go to bed after washing my hair i use a satin pillow case to prevent friction. Once dry I will scruch really gently to soften the look. For 2 or 3 day hair i spritz with water, use wide comb and rake through some avon gel, or curl extender, with wet hands. In the sun i spray with spf protecter. I use avon curly shampoo and conditioner, or body shop honey shampoo and conditioner. I never ever brush my hair!
