Sony Box v Panasonic DVD recorder

I have a Panasonic 26LXD70 connected to a Panasonic DVD Recorder. Realising that I have to watch the digital channel I am recording (or analogue) I have tried hooking up my old Sony set top box.
I can view the Sony on the tv no problem but when I try to view its picture via the AV2 channel on my DVD recorder something odd happens - I get the sound but no picture!

I have followed each devices instructions correctly but am flummoxed as to why I can't view the picture. I've swapped around the SCART leads in case the cheapie from tescos was the problem but I still get the same result. Also tried just connecting the Sony to the DVD and not to the TV as well.

Any thoughts...

Video format most likely.

I would put money on the Sony STB outputting Composite Video and the panasonic being set to RGB in. If that is the case then they most definately will not talk to each other.

Try setting the recorder to Composite in and see if that makes a difference.
