hi guys,

i have a Samsung plasma that has DTV incorporated, now i presume that this is just digital television ie freeview, however after a google search i cannot find what type of cable i need to connect this to my rooftop ariel.

does anyone have an ideas?

it will enable me to get rid of my set top box, and give my living room less of a cluttered appearance!!

thanks in advance

If it isn't a stupid and patronising question....

Have you tried unplugging the aerial lead from the STB and plugging it into the aerial socket on the TV?

That should be all you need to do?

lol, yes i have tried that, but the samsung has a seperate connection on the back beneath the ariel socket which states that it is the "DTV input". it resembles a 3.5mm jack, however i have not plugged anything in to this yet.

when the ariel is connected, all i can do is tune in terrestrial channels.

Should just be a case of connecting the aerial to the RF in on the TV.

Have a look on the remote, you should have a button on there to swap the tuners over from analogue to digital, could be labelled DTV/TV. You need to select DTV, then go in to the TV's setup menu and follow the instructions for channel installation.

Pretty sure the user manual will have covered this.

ok guys, i am not daft!

i have tried these, however the manual states that the aeriel must be connected into the "DTV input" socket for the DTV tuner to work, and have an available signal.

now i can find no cable that offers a uhf to 3.5mm jack, if that is indeed the cable that it requires.

The DTV input should be a normal coax socket, if indeed there is a seperate one? - most modern sets only have one aerial socket. The only sets which ever used 3.5mm aerial sockets were small portables, the first being the Sony KV9-90UB.
