If your TV has audio outputs and your HiFi amp has a a pair of audio inputs, then all you would need is a pair of phono cables.

Then by rights, the audio should be transferred to the HiFi with whatever is being shown on the screen. You will have to select the source/input on the amp for the audio, this could be AUX, EXT, TV, VCR etc.

No sound for any device, X Box VCR?

Has the X Box/VCR got audio outputs? If so you could just try these for starters.

I will assume that you have plugged into the LINE OUT of the TV and not into one of the AV INPUTS by mistake.

There are a couple of things that may be causing the silence. One is that the output might just need turning on in the menus of the TV. The other, (possibly more likely), is that it takes it's feed from the input to the amps feeding the TV speakers after the volume control.

So if you have used the volume control of the TV to turn down the TV speakers you may also have turned down the output from the TV to your HiFi amp! This is how the line outs on my TV work.

However on my TV in the menus is an option to mute the internal speakers keeping the line out active. Using this I can turn off the TV's speakers and use my amp/speakers but still retain the TV's volume control.
