Is there a DVD player thats plays divx and has HDMI upscaling and USB?

A bonus if it records as well.

Post a link if possible.

Thanks.

there is a Philips one the 5980 which plays divx, upscales and has a USB port.

The USB port also supports some external hard drives, so you can access divx files from them.

oh and its quite a reasonable price too £69

do upscalers actually show any difference in picture quality as I was asking someone in Comet yesterday and he basically said not to bother buying one

Depends how good your TV is, the TV has an upscaler anyway, it's mostly a question of which is best - usually a decent make TV has a better upscaler, and a cheapo make has a worse one.

But as it doesn't really add anything to the price, if you're replacing your DVD player you may as well pick one with HDMI and see if it helps?.

I have a samsung PS42Q96HDX outputs at max 720p - I was looking for a home theatre system (ideally with HD DVD player) to twin with the panel. Would it be better to buy the HD DVD addon for the xbox and buy a HTS separate to link with the tv direct?

I would always suggest buying a seperate DVD player and surround sound system, it's by far the best solution - generally the DVD player will fail long before the amplifier, so you can simply replace the DVD player without replacing it all.

Presumably you've already got the Xbox?, so isn't adding the HD player to it about the cheapest way of getting an HD-DVD?.

Yeah, I have the elite. I've just heard of all sorts going on with the addon over in the gaming forums regarding sound problems - other than that I would go for that option.

What am I looking at cost wise to get a Home theatre system to link to the TV? Could i get away with using something like this as I'm not exactly flushed with cash at the minute ? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105960

No, I doubt it, as it doesn't have a Decoder built in, looks like an amp, and speakers, and that's about it
