HD projector vga help

hello all, first post and as my name suggests , i havn't a clue

i have a hd "compatible" ,not ready, projector ,but have had trouble getting , or knowing the right cables to get as the only hd in is vga , which people tell me is analogue , so how can i get hd through my projector?

xbox apparantly do a vga cable which supports 720 , but my hd dvd surround system only has composite out and a hdmi slot,so assuming i can get a composite to vga cable , will this really be in HD?

i really havnt got a scooby here.

the projector is an optoma dv11 and these are the in/outputs

http://www.rueducommerce.fr/hifi/ima...MA-DV11-D3.jpg

and this is the dvd system

http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...tem+HTS3357-05

this has a hdmi slot , but how do get the signal into the prjector?????? , this is really stressing me out , i should have definately done my homework before buying everything , although its all still in the boxes if i cannot get proper HD through either the xbox 360 or the dvd system into the projector.

im thinking i might have to buy a hdfury adaptor , is this correct? http://www.hdfury.com/

thanks in advance for any help or advice whatsoever.

The resolution of this projector is 854 x 480. For HD you really need a minimum of 1368 x 720. When it says HD compatible it means it can take a HD signal but then downscales it to fit.
With your DVD player it doesn't really provide a HD signal it merely upscales it to 1080i which if you did manage to connect it to your projector it will then be downscaled to 854 x 480.
If you want HD I would change the projector for a HD Ready one rather than HD compatible.

The projector has both S-Video and Composite inputs. The DVD has Composite and S-Video outputs.

Since neither unit is actually HD there seems little point even bothering trying to connect in HD mode. As dwhite rightly points out all the DVD will do is upscale SD to HD and then the projector will downscale it to SD again. In the process probably losing a bit of picture quality.

Your best option given the kit you have is to connect using S-Video. Just a simple cable required. You could connect either S-Video or Composite to the VGA input on the projector but that is more than just a cable. It involves signal conversion electronics. Seems to me there is little point going down that route for possible next to no benefit.

I would agree, use an S-Video cable - it's completely pointless trying to use the VGA input, the projector spec is too low. Don't use Composite though, that will be considerably poorer.

As you don't have an HD source, why worry about HD yet?.

You wont be able to connect a PS3 or SKY HD box to your projector using anything other than composite.

If you get the 360 VGA cable you can set the 360 to output at 800x600 which is about as close to 854 x 480 as your going to get. It wont be HD, but it will still look alot better than composite.
