Alternative to Apple TV?

I am currently looking for a media player for my grandparents but don't want to particularly have it connected to the net. Does anyone know of a player that has a built in hard drive and will allow you to view photos, play music etc? So far I have only found the Apple TV but this seems to require an internet connection.

Thanks,

Jay

Not sure exactly what your looking for - but at Maplin.co.uk they have a few external hard drive media players one of which also records. Are they what you want?

They don't seem to be well known brands but I can't find any of the main brands that don't require a net connection.

As far as I'm aware they don't "require" a net connection, just have the option of using one - at least the ones I've played with were like that.

Apple TV also requires a computer running iTunes. Apple TV is very easy to set up and use and is perfect for people who aren't computer literate, but its not cheap. I have one and love it. It's great for watching bittorrent downloads on a 42" plasma.

AppleTV only outputs HD so you need a converter if you want to use it with an ordinary (e.g. Scart) input.
