Canon Ixus or Sony Cybershot?
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a new digital camera and of course I have trawlled through a number of reviews on the internet but I wanted to get the opinion of people who may have first hand knowledge of living with the camera's I'm considering. I'm considering 1 of the follwowing camera's: Ixus 960is Ixus 950is Sony Cybershot T200. Really I'm wondering is the 960is worth £70.00 more than the 950is? However I would like to consider purchasing the best camera at the time as I will be keeping it for a good few years. And how does the T200 stack up to the Canon's?. Any opinions will be gratefully received.... Cheers. |

A couple of my friends have got the Sony Cybershot cameras, and although I'm impressed by the small size of them + features I don't really like the pictures that they get with them (I think it's the actual camera and not just them taking bad photos).
I've always liked the colours on the Canon cameras (used to have a Powershot S30 and loved it + have recently moved upto a Ixus 800IS and still love that). I have seen some photos with the 950IS along with some reviews and they are all good. The extra £70 for the 960IS will mostly be for the extra mega pixels (12mp on the 960IS instead of 8mp on the 950IS). If you were going to do printing/viewing upto A3 size (and maybe a bit bigger) then I would go for the 950IS (8mp), but if you were going to print anything bigger then I would get the 960IS (12mp). It's not worth paying the extra for the bigger mega pixels if you are not going to do this + also the pictures are sometimes not as good with extra mega pixels (interferance as the sensors are more packed in on the CCD). My 3mp S30 used to give me great pictures upto A3 size (let alone my 6mp Ixus 800IS). |

I recently bought the IXUS 950IS & have not been dissapointed. It produces pictures of excellent quality. Check out any of the countless compact digital camera reviews on the net for more guidance.

Last summer i upgraded my old Sony T1 with an Ixus75.
The picture quality of the canon is a so much better than any portable sony i have seen. Also memory sticks cost more than SD cards, and my laptop has a SD slot built in - which was really the icing on the cake. |

I currently use a Canon Ixus 50 and have been very pleased with it, and it has always shown better results when compared with other Sony cameras.
I have today ordered a 860 is, being similar to the 960, and some reviews note it as a better camera, much cheaper, albeit less Mps. See here for the conclusion page of a very comprehensive review, preferring th e860 to the 960 http://www.photographyblog.com/revie...s_860_is_6.php good luck |
