I don't suppose many know Give Ireland Back To The Irish by Wings. Paul McCartney was upset about the criticism some of his lyrics had been getting apparently - he'd released a single called Mary Had A Little Lamb

To become 'meaningful' again he put the Ireland single out; it was instantly banned by the BBC. Strangely, Macca has left it off of all his greatest hits albums - sad, because it's a good little rocker.

Not banned because of drug references- contary to popular belief- it was too risque!

In the late 60s-early 70s the Beeb went on a crusade banning any song with supposed drug/sex overtones.

Even "Lucy in the Sky" was banned I think!

Yeah, as Broken said it was a bit too 'hot'. Great song.

I Am The Walrus got banned by the BBC because of the word knickers

KNICKERS?! They said knickers! Oh my days what is the world coming to?!?!

Mind you in the 60s the Beeb's censorship was quite funny- they banned one song because of a reference to the "king's pad".

I didn't get that one too.

Magic Roundabout by Jasper Carrot
I love music that would never get aired on any Brit station but when I lived in Holland I was suprised how relaxed they are.
No ban there for Who The F*ck is Alice by Chubby (Royston Vasey) Brown or Sexy Motherf*cker by Prince

I thought Give Ireland Back to the Irish was a double A-side with Mary Had A Little Lamb. ?

Edit.
I just googled - I'm wrong. I just remember them being talked about in the same breath back in my school days.

Wasn't there a 'fuss' made over 'A day in the life' as well?. Got banned in the states because of the line 'went upstairs and had a smoke, somebody spoke and I went into a dream'.

Lol, such petty reasons to ban, seems ludicrous these days!

A Day In The Life was banned by the BBC for drug references. The funny thing is, the 'had a smoke' line referred to a Woodbine ciggy The song was definitely acid fuelled though.

John had to replace a certain word in the lyrics of Give Peace A Chance with 'masticate' to avoid the single getting banned.

NOt sure it was banned, I know a radio one DJ (Mike Reid I believe) made such a fuss of it with his petty critisisims, that it gained huge publicity and sold even more than it would have!

Je T'aime Moi Non Plus by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. I used to love that song, it came out in the late 60's/early 70's and at that time I was going out with a French lad so it made it even more romantic - even though it was really rude with all the 'sex' sounds!

Yes it was banned from being played on the radio at the time, although in later years they started playing it again.

I don't know if this song was banned but it was by Max Romeo and was called Wet Dream. The lyrics went....."lie down girl.....(and I'm too embarrassed to type more!)

I remember my friend lending it to me when I was about 15 and when my Mum found it, she broke it in two! How embarrassed was I, trying to explain this to my friend.
