Inspires his daughter, made an application form for X Factor manifest. Totally heartwrenching.

Please share how this has touched your lives.

If I hear anything more about Nicki's dad I will puke.

Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?

I dunno.. i mean my Dad died.. but he never put in an application for the X-Fator.. and thank god too.. i knew he would've been having a laugh if he had!!

Yeah very touching story, but hey, everyones Dad dies in the end... nice of hers to do that for her though.. she does have a great voice,

I agree with earlier poster. If I hear one more word about the demise of Nicki's dad, the quivering lip... and the waterworks, I will fling something hard at the TV, and I do not say that as a heartless person, my own dear dad passed away on the 22nd of August this year, so I know all about the heartbreak. HOWEVER ................ there is a time and a place for everything, and it has become the most irritating aspect of Nicki's presence on the show. She is a brilliant singer, and if she would only concentrate on that, it would answer her better.

Totally agree, if i hear one more mention of how her dad would be proud im going to scream. Sorry to be blunt but no one cares, this is a music show and people should be judged on their ability alone and not sob stories. I thought her choice of song was puke enducing too, I fully expected to see a tear trickle down her cheek at the exact same point in the song as Sinead O'Connor does. People die, life go's on, your a grown woman love. Dont live off the sympathy vote.

would the dad be proud of his daughter hawking his memory at least once every episode?

and if not Nikki shame on you for using your dad as cheap publicity.

The sob story is not new to this series, but she has taken it to a new level

Will next week she sing a song from his favourite movie?

The annoying thing about it is that she has the best voice in that competition by a country mile and if she just concentrated on that and stopped alienating people by a totally unnecessary sob story that is having the opposite effect to that intended, she would definitely be the odds on favourite to win.

To be honest, she sounded like even she has had enough of it when she spoke at the end of her song.

I agree, it's now getting to be old hat, but think about it guys.....she only has to have her comment about her dad recorded once, and the producer/director can show it as many times as he wants, without reference to her, and they do, every time they show an 'interview' or a flash back.

We have no way of knowing what Nicki thinks about it.

She has by far the best voice in the competition, and I just wish the damned producers would now leave her to get on with competing and winning, leave the sob story behind. Same with Leon and his mum, and Daniel being a single parent.

We know, now just let them perform.

If the producers do give her a song that fits, though, or for that matter a song for Daniel, it should be 'Everything I Own' which David Gates, of Bread, wrote when his own father passed away. Or possibly 'The Living Years' by Mike and the Mechanics. Both heartbreakingly sincere songs, which are also rather beautiful.

There's nothing wrong, ISTM, feeling and expressing genuine emotions on this subject. It's just the callous exploitation by the makers of X-Factor which is cheapening the story of those contestants who have suffered.

Agreed. Niki's a good singer, but she's lost a lot of credibility due to her constant harping on about her dad (who I'm sure was a lovely man and is genuinely missed). Personally I want to scream and throw something at the tv everytime she mentions him!

Most of us have suffered personal tragedies in our lives, but in the end our success should be due to our abilities not our sob stories.

If I'd said at my last job interview that I was here because of my dead granddad I'm sure they'd have been impressed!!

This may be the cynical side of me, but how do we know the story about her dad is even true.

People who are desperate for success have done a lot worse then make up a sob story to get on tv.

She know's it's her last chance at fame, and lets be honest - without the sob story would anyone even remember her from the auditions ?

Now there's cynicism and there's cynicism.
There is also a thing called the media that can find something like that out in about two nanoseconds so I think you are probably wrong.

Sorry but how on earth would anyone, apart from her and her dad, know if she applied because she found the application form in his belongings.

This is'nt something the media would be able to find out. I find it hard to belive that an elderly man would go to the trouble of writing in and obtaining an application form.

Why did'nt she do it herself when he was alive.

Do you really think its Nikis fault?, its all the producers.

Nathan brazil, thanks, at least someone here speaks sense.

It's strange that she forgot her Dad when she saw Simon Le Bon.
The woman needs serious therapy.

It's easy to get carried away by what's presented, and blame the focus. Nikki is not in charge of the way X-Factor presents her, or her story. The show is such a success precisely because it has the ability to bamboozle the average viewer into believing, or reacting.

Finding Leona, a genuine talent, was entirely accidental. Winners are usually intended to squeeze an Xmas number, then vanish. They're disposable. Except in Leona, they found someone who could generate many more millions, over a longer period, if she was handled right. So far, no one has seen fit to ask if this year's winner can expect the same care to be taken.

Yes we would. She had a brilliant voice, which was obvious even from the first auditions. Knocked the judges out, she was so good.
