How do we know he wasn't planning to apply himself?

I'm still curious to know how she found the application form in his belongings when he died last September. Was it last years application, or could you still apply for the next series before the current live finals had actually started? Or are the forms the same every year?

To be honest I dont believe a word of it. She's turning his memory into a pantomine at the moment.

Even with the sob story, she has no chance of winning. She reminds me of the bird in the wheelchair last year, except she just has a different sympathy vote.

I disagree that she has no chance of winning given that on current form she is the only one of the 11 remaining who can actually sing in key and in tune.

I feel sure that Niki would be horrified at the coverage her "sob story" is getting. The fact that it is brought up time and time again is not Niki's fault - it is totally the fault of the producers, who if they read this thread and are in tune with the GBP should realise that they are in danger of spoiling her chances of winning.

Niki is the best singer in the competition, and I would like to see her judged on her performances and not on outside factors. Please, Simon & co, no more mentions of Niki's late father.

"...the bird in the wheelchair..."

My god, you people disgust me.

I don't know whether she does bring it up or if the producers edit it but it really got on my nerves that it was even mentioned on Saturdays show I actually screamed (well tried to i have a really bad throat at the moment screaming hurts) at the screen then my mum told me not to watch anymore as it bugs me too much and I get really carried away with ranting about how she's old (well old for losing her parent) n stuff n it's not as if she's the only person in the world with a dead dad.

She is a singer so she should concentrate on channelling her feelings through her music - which she actually did rather well on Saturday - her performance was much more moving than her sob story ...

Do you really think she wants to continuing talking about her loss everytime she's on screen, or do you think she just wants to get on with it but the producers love a sob story and are milking it for every drop they can?

Honestly some people, you'd think you'd never watched the show before. Some people really need to have a word with themselves and think about what they are saying.

Did any of you actually watch the live show? If you did you'd see her avoid the 'dead dad' question posed by Dermot and said she had a brilliant time, she wanted to talk about the performance, not her life history.

Did she make Dermot ask that question, or the someone in his ear ask him?

Nikki doesnt have a hope in hell of long term success, however she will be in a while with this "sob story" as she knows the GBP buy into this sort of crap.

Totally agree, it doesnt matter that she can actually sing and has a good voice. There is no way in the wide world that a boring (apart from the sob story) woman in her thirties could win x-factor over the "so called" pretty boys and young groups like Hope And FutureProof. When she gets the boot she will never be heard of again (like 90% of the other past contestants).

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Her sob story is ruining her, imo.

When is Simon Cowell going to realise, this isnt Coronation Street or some soap opera. We dont need staged re-enacted scenes, sob stories, fake walk-outs etc. we just wanna see the bleedin' contestants do what their there to do, then vote one off each week til we're left with a winner. Is it that hard to understand?

Hardly - she's only in her 30s - I'm in my late 40s and both my parents are still alive. And believe me - the prospect of losing your parents doesn't get easier no matter how old you get

Wikipedia have an entry for her already

"Niki Evans (34) from Tamworth is a catering manager in a school. Auditioning in Birmingham, she applied for The X Factor after finding the application form in her recently deceased father's belongings. She has been in bands since the age of 12 and at 16 was signed to PWL but did not have chart success."

What they haven't mentioned is that she was also on BBC's Star For A Night

If she hasn't had success so far maybe it shows that she needs a sob story to get a pop career

Honestly this makes me doubt the whole 'form in deceased dad's belongings' story and the way she is presented as an essential underconfident woman who doesn't know her own talent. As someone who is clearly ambitious to succeed in the music industry and who is over 30 - what would be more natural than for her to apply for the X Factor (or any other music talent show she qualified for) off her own bat?

I doubt it. Producers would definitely have had her dressed-up and crying into a tray of Turkey Twizzlers.

Oh thats not really fair. I'm only 5 years younger than Niki and my mum is still only 48, gosh my dads only 56. I'm expecting them to be with me for a few years yet.

But I agree with the rest, the story has got on my nerves, especially since it just doesn't ring true with the application form.

You post as if the whole thing is a stunt. Perhaps when someone close to you dies - assuming anyone wants to be close to someone like you - then you might just develop a more adult perspective. Only a moron would believe that Nikki chooses to use her dad's death as the foundation for fifteen minutes of fame.

I feel bad for Niki. Some peoples comments on here never fail to amaze me. We all shout 'fixed', and whinge about editing etc so we know it goes on but tey ask the contestants very leading questions. If someone asked be about someone whom I loved very much and had died I think I would cry too.

Nikki choose to mention her father at the audition, she could have kept quiet about how her dad had the application form until after she had won/ lost x factor

Nikki has had no success with her BBC talent show coverage or through PWL or through the various bands she has been in

If she gets success she was either really unlucky that she didn't get it through previous attempts, or she saw how sob stories have worked in previous series and used tragic events in her life to be able to get through to the final 12
