He may not have been that elderly - she's supposed to be 34 (looks much older) so her dad may only have been 50-something. As someone said before, maybe he sent for the application form for himself!

I'm sick of hearing about it too, but its not exactly her fault is it?

Its The X Factor that keep bringing it up, not her.
And you can't blame her for being emotional and crying all the time, she must think of her dad a lot when she sings. I'd be the same if I was in that situation.

Stop being so bloody vicious

People just need to let off steam, no real malice intended I'm sure. After all isn't almost everyone saying she is a good singer?

To be honest, she sounded like even she has had enough of it when she spoke at the end of her song.”

I think she has a great voice, she was the only one last week that seemed to get completely absorbed into their song, and sing with genuine feeling. She seemed natural and effortless.

Its a shame that she is possibly unknowingly alienating the GBP with this sob story, but as someone else has posted, maybe shes unaware of the momentum it has taken. Its not her fault, its all in the editing. The whole show is cleverly edited and manipulated to provoke certain reactions in the viewers. Likewise the 'background stories' are carefully staged by the producers to milk the maximum entertainment value out of them. Before he died her dad might well have expressed an longing for her to sing in public, and that simple anecdote was probably ruthlessly embellished by journalistic licence into the 'application form' story.

I agree with someone else who said who knows how hard it must be to sing when there is something emotional praying on your mind. My own dad is dead and there have been times when quite out of the blue I have found myself filling up thinking "I wish he could have seen/heared/shared that...." Im sure that happened to Niki. Think of the pressure of the auditions, it wouldnt take much for you to break down. The fact that there are probably producers shouting into earpieces "Did you get that on film...thank ****, from how many angles...?" is NOT her fault.

Others more cynical might disagree, but personally, I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt. She's the most interesting voice on the XF this year for me anyway, and I just hope this sob story, HOWEVER it came about, doesnt blow it for her....
