In case anyone missed it BBC News web site had this to say about TIVO and its lack of success in the UK & USA...Apparantly only 180,000 have been sold and they believe that PVRs may go the way of the laser disc !

I'm not sure how many people actually want want the tivo does.

I personaly am not willing to pay £400 and a £10 monthly subscription to have my tv record programs for me. I simply don't watch enough tv. I would however pay £200 for a digital recorder I could just use like a vhs recorder, to record stuff I want.

Perhaps they should cut the learning what you like aspect and just have good quality digital recording, with no phone line connection at a lower price.

a classic case of making a product that really isnt needed. If it didnt need a £10 subscription then Im sure it would be more successful, but after spending £400.. who wants more outlay!

Sky PVRs wil no doubt be the way to go in this respect.... maybe they'll add Tivo like features for a 'small' extra monthly cost and finally they'll be able to deliver that long time coming Sky TImer!
