Do all DOI fans also like SCD?

SCD has a default setting of some bloke winning unless all the blokes are hopeless or a girl is streets ahead. It produces some pretty bizarre results the equivalent of Duncan or Gareth winning DOI. SCD is easier so hopeless performers and hunks on a journey as they find their artistic side who do well on SCD tend to rapidly hit the ice on DOI. You can't even march on and on like JS on SCD if you can't even stand on the ice - or at least I hope Todd doesn't prove you can. DOI has a better recent record of getting the right people to the end and the girls have a chance if they are good/brave enough.

Both though depend on getting the casting right -DOI with an obvious winner and no competition could be as predictable as SCD with a vote magnet for the female vote and both can look weak if no one is really good and exciting to watch.

I enjoy DOI but I've never watched SCD because I'm glued to the X Factor

(And yes, I'm voting for Ray )

I love Dancing on Ice but never watch Strictly as it clashes with the X factor.

I love both but I find that maybe Strictly takes itself far too seriousley now. The Judges are a bunch of egomaniacs and their bias is pretty disgusting.

I find DOI is more tongue in cheek, its more fun and the judges are not as biased. It doesn't take itself too seriousley. It knows its a bit of fun.

I love both, although I've watched DOI from the beginning and SCD from series 4. Wasn't happy with this year's Stricly fiasco though!

I like both about equally. Both have their foibles and advantages.

Pip is a far better presenter than the dreadful Brucie IMHO, but I really wish he'd drop the shouting. Holly & Tess are literally interchangeable.

Strictly makes much better use of its pros whereas they hardly get a word in on DOI.

ITT really enhances Strictly for me whereas DOI is crying out for a decent companion show. NOT some knockabout /attention span of a gnat/ slapstick/ yoof orientated rubbish like the late, non-lamented Defrosted! Instead we need proper, in depth insider stuff, not only straight training footage but maybe things like the pro's showing us in detail how various moves are supposed to work, how they teach them to their celebs etc. Then we can get a better insight into what to look for on the Sunday Night. I've learned loads about various dances and their integral moves from SD and ITT - and love to sit there appreciating a great Fleckel or whatever when watching Strictly. Wouldn't it be great to do the same about Ice Dancing?

I hope that the sucess of Jayne's opening dances with the Pros during Chris' injury will convince the ITV producers to keep including them right through. The Pro dances are always good fun on Strictly.

I've never had any problems or been distracted by the backing music in DOI, and agree pre-recorded is appropriate for ice dance. In contrast, the live band in Strictly have often had me screaming at the telly for butchering something or other which is a huge distraction from the actual dancing.

On the whole, I think the costumes etc are better on Strictly. On DOI I think they tend to be a bit tacky/garish, and on more than one occasion so badly made I find myself wondering if they'll fall apart before the end of the routine. Whoever did the make up for last Sunday's show should be shot.

I hate the SD "Sunday" results show. Well done ITV for not following suit on a ratings hunt.

The ads on DOI are a real pain. I appreciate they're a necessity but do they really have to cram in so many, so often ...?

As a non soap-watcher, there are always loads of contestants I've never heard of on both shows. But actually, I quite like that, and enjoy "getting to know them" through the series. It also tends to avoid me having (often mis-placed) pre-conceptions about people and their abilities too. As a big rugby fan, I just knew Austin Healy was an egoistcal pain the the arse and a large part of me really wanted to see him make a right prat of himself .... but of course he turned out to be really quite talented, and much more personable than I'd thought and I finished up voting for him!

I agree too often the judges on SD pick favourites and reflect it in their scores. That's less of a problem on DOI. But there Jason is just too OTT in his comments sometimes and I don't get what Ruthie's there for at all. I'd much rather hear the more considered, and in my view, more relevent comments, and constructive criticism of Karen, Nicky and Robin

I do think Strictly offers a more level playing field. A week female skater can get through for weeks based on being pulled around and lifted by her partner, whereas there's nowhere to hide for the men.

Finally, I hate, loathe and detest the flying in the DOI final.

Gosh, reading back that seems like a long list of gripes, and a long old post too, sorry But bottom line is, whatever their various shortcomings, I love both shows and am delighted that they are not scheduled to overlap - I hate it when both are off air and I can't get my weekend fix of dancing one way or another

I so agree about the companion show. It badly needs one. If there is no room for it on ITV then put it on ITV2.

With regards to the costumes though, skating costumes are always a lot flimsier that dancing costumes. I agree about the make up though. Its dreadful.

I'd say a lot more pop acts are singing live these days. Ever since Pop Idol and X Factor, the public expect it more, and there are more singers who are up to the job!

However, the problem with the singers on SCD is that they are given songs which don't suit them. They are expected to sing songs by Christinia Aguilera, who is an amazing singer, and none of the singers in the band can compete. Add to that the lack of rehearsal time and editing the song down to fit the time-slot and it's inevitable there are a lot of painful "interpretations".

I can't say I've ever been that into SCD, and hardly watched the last series, but whenever I have watched, the screetching singers have spoiled the enjoyment of some otherwise beautiful dancing. I think it's a great idea that they have a live band, but the BBC need to give serious consideration to employing an extra couple of singers who can cope with the songs, or perhaps rejecting some song choices as unreasonable.

DOI just feels much fresher. The celebs (inevitably) tend to be younger, and I recognise more of them than SCD, and for me ice skating is more fun to watch than ballroom dancing. Too many of the SCD lot have been to stage school or had dance training. They rely too heavily on the cast of Eastenders, which adds to the stage-school thing, as EE is always recruiting their younger cast from Sylvia Young.

At least with DOI it's reasonably obvious who has already skated, and most of them haven't. Those with dance experience also have an advantage, but whole ice bit levels that off somewhat.
