Network/HDD Media Player wanted

Must have the following features:

1) Either HDD based, or Network-streamed (preferably both, network second, HDD third). Preferably it will support HD files (720p and above), but this is not absolutely necessary.

2) Must have widescreen switching, RGB SCART.

3) Must be able to play downloaded XViD files *well*, ie without undue jerkiness, and preferably with a good chipset, so good compatibility is assured.

I currently have a LiteOn LVD-2010, which does do most things well. The picture is decent, it network-streams and it supports most files just fine. But, it coughs on some files, has intermittent jerkiness (unable to keep up with bitrate/screen changes?) which are not inherent to files and widescreen switching doesn't work very well.

Ideas?

I have access to a MediaMVP and a Dreambox, have not fully explored these possibilities yet.

I don't want to blow too much on this -- if it went over £150, I feel it would be better to put that cash towards a new TV and simply hook a PC to it...

hiya

i was under the impression like the technomate you can use the dreambox to stream media.
it would be ideal worth a google before spending any money.
or look round for an old xbox as these were really good at streaming to the tv

Look at the Rapsody N35, I bought one of these about a month ago, and I am pretty impressed. Should meet all the needs you specified

Otherwise look at the NetGear or PInancle offerings

Thanks.

The Rapsody looks good, but it's a bit too rich for mr (£170). But I guess you get what you pay for.

I'll look into the Dreambox first. I think it's MPEG2 only, and needs a server PC for XVID -- but this might have its advantages (better CODECs) if it works well.

I have an old XBOX, didn't think of that. You can get a software mode for them now can't you?
