SMS to GPRS / 3G data - how can I do this?
Ok,
I have a Nokia N95 (Symbian S60 3rd). I am on Three, I only get 100 texts a month and don't want to upgrade, what I want to do is send some messages through 3G / GPRS when I run out of my network SMS allowance. The idea is to save 5p + per text. Can this be done? Does anyone know of any apps for S60 3rd that make it easy, without changing all the data settings etc. I want to be able to open an application that can see the phones address book and send a text through the application using my data allowance (don't worry about the data, I have loads). Does anything like this exist? I can't find it |

Messages->Options->Settings->Text Message
There is an option called "connection type" or similar which you can change to packet data. |

But how would I pay for it?
Which provider could I use to send messages via data? The phone is completely unlocked / bought sim free with no restrictions other than any at network level.. Thanks |

A service that totally integrates with your N95 is Truphone, however the saving - I have to say - is not that great. Their SMS service (whichi is a beta at the moment) is 7p for sending a message anywhere in the world.
Good for abroad but only saving 3p on every UK message. The other slight issue is that I believe it would show your SMS from your Truphone number which is a different number to your mobile. I don't really know if there are any other IP SMS carriers out there at the moment... |

The TECHNOLOGY for this has been around for years, but do you really think the networks would enable something that'd lose them BILLIONS in SMS revenues over the course of 12 months?
Don't expect it EVER to be enabled. Sorry! |

The technology is there and you can use it, the problem is that you will be hard pressed to find a charge significantly lower than the network operators. Unless, you are sending thousands of messages. Do 3 offer a text bundle as an add-on to your contract?

Don't expect it EVER to be enabled. Sorry! I can do VOIP and I would hope to be able to send lower price texts though data. Most bulk text services charge about 4-5 p, so I would have hoped somebody would have made an application and a server at their end and taken say 1 penny per text. |

The network termination fee for a text is 1p to 2p so it is unlikely you would be able to send them through a third party for 1p.

![]() I rarely send an SMS as I can't believe that I should have to pay 10p to send 120 characters. What a rip-off.

does smsbug work with N95? this is a java program that uses gprs to send messages to and from any suitable phone. I used to use it a couple of years ago on my spv c500 but i havn't tried it on my N95.
basically ( from memory ) you download the java applet and register with the company. You pay in advance ( amount varies ) by card and each time you send a sms your credit balance reduces by around 3 cents ( balance used to be in euros ) If this works with n95 it could be just what you need. Best advice I can give is to google smsbug |

Thanks mfqy94 smsbug was just what I was looking for, the app is loaded, i've tested and it works.
It's really easy to use and I've saved it as 1 of my 5 shortcut icons on the home screen of my phone. It can use the address book on the phone and it does web delivery reports. All UK texts are just 1 credit ! which is 3 euro. I'll be saving 80% on my out of allowance texts from now on. Thanks! |

You're welcome. I think i will install it on my own N95, my own tarriff doesnt include anywhere near enough texts. I had almost forgotten what a neat app smsbug is.
