Over the last Year I have loved being part of this Forum. Many many people have friends.I loved popping into other threads. However in the last few weeks, the Forum has become more and more of a place to avoid for me.

I find it very hard to understand why there are so many people attacking the Celebs,Pros, and other Forumites opinions.
We have always had a reputation for being 'pink and fluffy' in here.Real life is hard enough without having to cope with the nastiness that has crept in here too.

We are ALL supposedly adults or on our way to adulthood,we ALL have our own opinions, and we are ALL allowed to air them.BUT do we have to be so rude about people that a lot of us have never met and only know from what we read and watch?

I personally like Brendan,I am finding it horrid to read the first page of the Forum and yes it is 'my problem' but I would never dream of commenting on other people s favourites the way the threads are doing now.Other celebs/pros are starting to be picked on too.It is just not fair or kind.

So my plea is would it be possible for things to return to 'nice and fluffy' with just the odd insult please.
I am off now to don my Tin Hat and *duck* as the replies come in, but I live in hope...Thank you,Saggy.

I agree with everything you say

I try not to post if I'm going to be negative. I come on here wanting to relax not to argue with someone.

We actually asked for the forum to be pink two years ago as it was so pink and fluffy

Disagreeing on marking , technique , choice of people to go out is , in my opinion fine , but totally agree that the personal insults are just unacceptable

Yes, a slight dig here and there would be fine. But to call people bimbos, airheads, top-heavy no-brainer etc. etc. is SO un-classy. It's CRASS-Y!

Hiya Saggy!!

You musthave pressed send a sec before me!!

Was just livid at one of the other threads about Miss Brook, and Mr Cole!

Has anyone formed an opinion thats NOT BASED ON TV EDITS AND TABLOIDS??!

I think there is way too much negativity about the celebs, and the pros!! its not on, they are all working there AR**ESoff every day! who are we to start threads saying hate, despise people!! God? I think not!

Remember KARMA!! for those who start calling, and hate, based on sterotypical views (fed by papers, tv's and mag articles), it gets paid back in one way or another in your own lives!

Ill view my opinions, but would never do that, for the simple reason if someone I knew said someone was using the internet to bully me, id be heartbroken wondering what the heck Id done to deserve it!

So take a look at the negative threads! is there really a point other than being nasty!?

Saggy, I agree 100%.

But I was friends with a FM years ago on here who felt much the same as you and wrote a post and others the same as you, and was pretty much 'bullied' off the forum by a few and left, never to return. That was in the 'pink and fluffy' years.

I would hold that tin hat in front of you and not let the same happen to you. You make very valid points.

I do agree....we do not know these people, so why attack so personally. Opinions are fine, personal attacks on celebs, and more so FM's are not imo.

Good luck.

I agree, theres no need for personal attacks on celebs, the pros, judges, Tess, Bruce or each other... When it gets too far we lose posters, new and old and thats just wrong...

I personally think that people are entitled to their opinions.

Well done saggy, you've said what a lot of us have been thinking and saying privately for a couple of weeks now. It is very depressing to read some of the threads and I've stopped posting a lot as it's all so negative.

Maybe it's time to start pressing the alert button a lot more!

This is the first time I've been on here this year and it's lovely to see so many people from previous years here and, in general, as lovely as ever.

On the down side, I've seen a few posts that were pretty unpleasant, the traditional slating of certain dancers/celebs coupled with over the top reactions from some people.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I've never understood how people can hate people they've never met - based on tabloid nonsense and edited footage. What's even worse is when the same people who do that react badly to any criticism in their direction. People have different opinions and different reasons for thinking what they think, that's reality.

I've been in so many forums over the last 12 years, and this one has always been different. Fewer trolls and less flaming. Would be nice to keep it that way! Seems to me that some of the posters who weren't around in previous years have come here with the usual forum attitude. Part of me thinks that's inevitable, but..

but..

..the thing is, this forum has a lot of people who are POLITE to each other, even when they don't agree. Discussion, critique, arguing..it's all fine, so long as it's polite. That, and a bit of thinking before coming out with knee-jerk reactions would be nice.

Thanks to all of you for your support.

Picklish,I will now go and find an armoured suit too.I am ever hopefull that I will not be bullied but I am prepared.Real friends won't and that's all that matters.

I live in hope that we may all live happily side by side...With our own opinions, just not with nastiness. If we all felt the same it would be very boring!

I agree but I also agree with Saggy all the bashing of one person or the other is going a little far and if I couple isn't liked as much then it only needs one thread not several - ie Mr Cole and Miss Brook

I don't disagree with criticism but as long as its constructive

the blood letting does seem to have started early this year. I'm no particular fan of Kelly Brook but the comments about her I find pretty nasty ditto those about Gabby. I kind of think if you have nothing better to do than spend time on a message board slagging off people you've never met off in a really spiteful fashion then just maybe you should get out more.

It's not about not being entitled to an opinion - having an opinion is one things, personal attacks are something else imho

I know this has nothing to do with SCD, but practice what you preach,....you weren't particularly pleasant about a certain Mr Lewis Hamilton. I know you've written it in your blog and yes you are intitled to write whatever in it,....but some of the things you've written about him, were quite horrible to say the least.

No, I cannot agree with you Saggy. For me, free speech (always within DS guidelines of course) is paramount.

There are numerous threads on this forum, from the ever so lovely pink and fluffy ones and the open discussion threads to the more vociferous opinionated threads. Something for everyone. And, if you fnd nothing you like, then go ahead and open a new one.

All I suggest is that people use a modicum of comonsense, filter out those they don't like, and only click on those that they do. I trust you have not been dragooned into reading those threads you are not happy with?

Why should everyone conform to your idea, of what is acceptable? We are bound only by DS rules, this is good enough for me!!

Having said this, I do acknowledge that you and many others feel this way.

Well done Saggy

I am all for people having different opinions, but as long as it is dealt with in a constructive way and not attacking other fm which in the last few weeks has happened far to may time.

We are here to discuss the dancing. Not making opinions on the personallities involved - we don't know them well enough to comment on that.

Actually if you read my blog alot of what I wrote wasn't really aimed at him but the people that kept attacking me for having an opinon on Hamilton that wasn't the same as theirs... I try not to get annoyed but having 'He's a British rookie support him you sour this and that' thrown in my face everytime I log in was getting a bit annoying...

I am not asking everyone to conform, just the recent nastiness has reached fever pitch, and it is making a lot of us grumble.

Free speech is what far too many of our older generation gave their lives for,in order that we can speak our minds.

So the comment "he's a Bl**dy h****d B*****d wasn't really aimed at him? I must have read a different blog then?

Edit: Besides, Brendan hasn't been the only one who's been attacked on this board, James also had to bear the brunt of the rude/harsh comments.
