It depends when you use the phone, and what you use it for. Are you a heavy texter, or talker, or equal. Some networks do free texts for minimum top up but wont be suitable if you dont text. If you use phone offpeak to mainly call then vodafone would remain the best option, 10p a minute network offpeak, and with stop the clock, an hours call for 30p.

Nothing comes close to Vodafone with Stop the clock and free weekends if you are a leisure user.
A 60 minute call in the evenings and all weekend for just 30p..... nothing else like it on PAYG. |

Vodafone have two standard Pay As You Talk price plans and as others have mentioned you can alter the price plan to have such things as Stop The Clock.
For information on the standard price plans you can use the following link: Vodafone pay as you talk price plans If you do have a few set numbers you call on a regular basis I'd also suggest you setup and use Vodafone family |

I buy the texts/voice packs plus I get unlimited free weekend calls and texts if I spend £5 during the week (that can be via calling credit or packs). Plus I still get to speak with people in the UK when I call their CS. |

1) £5 topups (plus 10% if you topup in an asda or by debit/credit card, regardless of topup amount), 2) call charges = 16p a minute for first 3 minutes each day, 8p a minute after that - that's to any network, 3) texts = 10p each for the first 3 each day, 5p each after that, and 4) asda mobile runs off vodafone for coverage purposes, so your current signal won't change. |

Minimum top-up?
Do all networks have a minimum top-up requirement? Or which one has the lowest? I can't seem to find this information in their T&Cs.
I only spend about £2 max per month so wouldn't like to pay extra for something that I don't use (the point of having PAYG in the first place) |

Basically...
o2 - 25p a minute for 3 minutes, 5p thereafter. Other network calls 40p a minute. Topup £10 a month and calls are literally free from 1 chosen address. Not good if you use your mobile in different places. Vodafone - 30p a minute day time, 10p evenings and weekends. Other network calls are the same price. Use £5 of calling credit in one week, all weekend calls and texts are free. Use £2.50, texts are free. Spend £5 in one month, get unlimited calls to 3 other Vodafones. Orange - 15p a minute to everyone, including other networks Topup £10 a month, calls to 3 selected Orange numbers are 15p an hour. Also, you get £1 back in credit the next month. T-Mobile - 3 different price plans, including 1 where calls are 15p per minute to everyone. Another price plan has rather expensive calls but texts at 3p a minute. One price plan offers calls to other T-Mobiles at 8p per minute Topup £10 on Friday, get unlimited texts all weekend. If you pay a ridiculous price like £7.50, you get unlimited calls and texts for 5 days. Top 5 1. Orange - cheap but very poor customer service 2. Vodafone - can be cheap if you use your phone often 3. Virgin Mobile 4. T-Mobile 5. o2 |
