Lesley Garrett back to sing?
Bob Yarwood
22-10-2007
After the success of having Katharine Jenkins and Andrea Bocelli on the show, I wonder if we might have Lesley Garrett back, this time to sing. If you look in the message boards on her website, her devoted followers (of whom I am one) are campaigning to have her brought back. My dream show would have her at the final, singing something like "Moon River" while Ian (suitably attired in regulation white tie and tails and with his hair combed) and Camilla do a waltz.

I agree it would be lovely to have Lesley back to sing but it has to be Anton and Erin dancing

I agree. Would be great to see Lesley on SCD singing. But andiep is correct- it has to be Anton and Erin dancing! Wouldn't be right otherwise!

I believe Lesley sang Moon River in a concert in Sheffield recently and Anton and Erin danced the waltz to it.

They certainly did and it was breathtaking Id love it to be repeated on SCD

That would be so good. Love her partnership with Anton

Fabulous idea. Lesley is touring at the moment, but I'm sure she would squeeze it in for Anton.

OK, I give in, Anton and Erin it is! As for the tune, being a very old dancer I remember that the classic waltz of the fifties, that was played in almost every championship final, was "Fascination". Perhaps she could sing a medley.

For another suggestion, see my post on Marcus and Karen Hilton.

Loving that idea! That would be brilliant! Would be a shame to have Lesley back and for her not to have a bit of a dance with Anton too!!

Why has Lesley never been in a Christmas Special?

Thanks for the link - that was awesome, the first time I have watched Youtube. It reminded me that apart from anything else they have the same sense of humour - I loved the shot of Anton with his head up Lesley's skirt.

As for Lesley - to me she is The Queen and I am literally in love with her. There never has been, and will probably never be again, such a combination of classical operatic soprano and bubbly, entertaining personality.

It might help if the wider TV audience were told about the idea of Lesley's reappearance. Perhaps Claudia could publicise it on ITT and ask viewers to send their comments in. That should get things moving!

Might it not be more of an idea to find out if Lesley is actually available to appear on SCD first? She is touring at the moment. I'd love to see her on there. I'd actually love to see her on ITT too. They've just had Aled on, so seems only right they have Lesley on sometime as well! She's still a massive fan of the show. Didn't Connie Fisher say last year that Lesley had SCD on in her dressing room (during the Sound of Music) on repeat?!

An equally good song for her to sing for the waltz would be "He Was Beautiful", which is the theme from the film "The Deerhunter". I remember the Hilliers used it on one of their teaching and demo tapes. If anyone would like to hear it and "Moon River", they are both on her CD "When I Fall In Love". This is the CD where, in the song "The Way We Were", she gives Barbra Streisand a singing lesson.

That would also be very fitting considering that is the very same track that she danced her Waltz to in the first ever SCD show. Great idea!
