5 free HD-DVD movies when you buy HD-DVD drive for Xbox 360

Does the new offer from Microsoft make you want to buy the HD-DVD drive for the 360?

£114.99 with 5 free titles.

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/news-featu...s-16102007.htm

I am now seriously considering it.

I've read accounts of people using the 360addon under XP as it is recognised as just an optical drive when using the write drivers, marry that to suitable playback software (Power DVD etc) and bingo.

I'd still favour the standalone option especially if the PC was not high spec and with the E1 being £180 and high spec models a little more with the same "free" movies.

If you already have an HD-DVD player, and want to pick up five of those movies cheaply, you could take up the offer then sell on the 360 HD-DVD drive.

You could always trade it on at somewhere like Computer Exchange and pick up a few more HD-DVD's.

Windows Vista includes suitable drivers, so just plug the drive right in. Windows XP is almost as easy. It will recognise and install the optical drive, but you’ll be faced with the New Hardware Wizard for an Xbox Memory Controller. Luckily, there are now drivers on Windows Update, so just tell the wizard to check online. The drive will now be operational and read the data on HD-DVD discs.

but i would use the Toshiba's HDDVD Drivers for Windows XP

Hmmm. Of the 13 on offer, for me, there's only one or two "must have" titles. I'll wait till after Christmas before deciding whether to get an Xbox or not. There are rumours of an XBox coming out next year with an internal HD-DVD drive too.

Anyone know how the drive is interfaced within the case? e.g. Is it a standard drive format that you could remove from the case and fit internally to a PC bay and PATA or SATA?
