NTSC out on PS2 and X-Box

Can anybody tell me if the standard UK PS2's and XBox's will output a composite NTSC signal?

Ta.

I believe the UK PS2 outputs NTSC when watching region 1 DVD's using multi-region DVD device.

But what about for playing games?

I'm not sure about Xbox but I know the PAL PS2 switches to NTSC when playing a game in 60Hz

You sure? I think it might just do PAL60. I've played 60 Hz on the PS2 on a TV which doesn't do NTSC but does PAL60. Also the current TV I use does a Hue option with NTSC and I can't ever remember seeing this with 60 Hz. I'll check this later.

Alternatively, if you want better than crappy composite, s-video is proper NTSC as well (handy if you're out of rgb scarts, or you want to use the ps2 as a dvd player without hacking/re-enabling rgb, assuming you can find a ps2 s-video lead).

Finding the extra picture setting to tweak ("tint" on my panasonic) is a giveaway that your TV is displaying NTSC.

Hmm. I read about the PS2 using NTSC for 60Hz in more than one reliable place but I don't have one myself, so I was merely relaying what I had read. It could of course be that what I read was utter crap

Finally got round to checking. The PS2 does indeed do NTSC with 60Hz games so make sure if you want to view games in 60Hz that your TV is NTSC compatible.

I had been told certain games I have are running 60Hz when they are not. Finally found one that is 60Hz selectable to test this with. There don't appear to be that many around.

Also anyone noticed how the games don't do screen position adjustments any more? You used to be able to centre games with the earlier releases now you can't and the position of the screen varies considerable from one game to another.

Yeah, only 60hz PS2 games I can think of are ICO (watch - doesn't seem to have 60hz off mode tho, unless you wipe the memory card!), and REZ. A visit to the gaming forums might throw up a longer list. Not sure what I hate more though - 50hz flicker or 60hz scanlines. Good to have the option though...

monkeysoup I'd agree about the scan lines I don't think that there's anything to be gained picture wise but apparently the games run faster.

Found a couple of lists on the net that were only about 8 titles in them. The one I managed to borrow was Dropship.
