The List:

Eso Beso – Emma Bunton
More Than A Woman - Tavares
These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra
Makin' Whoopee - Dinah Washington
Mujer Latina - Thalia
Dancing Queen - ABBA
Top Hat, White Tie And Tails - Tony Bennett
Stay With Me - Deborah Bonham
(Love Is) The Tender Trap - Frank Sinatra
For Once In My Life - Michael Buble
Straighten Up And Fly - Robbie Williams

Hmmm..... quite hard to divide up, but I reckon:

Samba:
Eso Beso
More Than A Woman
Mujer Latina
Dancing Queen
For Once In My Life

American Smooth:
(Love Is) The Tender Trap
Top Hat, White Tie and Tails (never heard of this, but love the title!)

No idea about the others!

Loving the songs in Spanish though!!! Now if only they'ld do some Cha-Chas and Rumbas in Spanish as well!

For Once in my Life if definitely an AS song, not Samba...

I HOPE!

Straighten Up And Fly Right will be an American Smooth. I love that song.

You are kidding, right?

P.S... Eso Besso was by Paul Anka, not Dumb Spice

Don't know about Robbie's version of this song. Yes, this is another classic jazz number for AS...

Just heard Robbie's version in youtube. Have to say it's pretty how this song is sung by jazz singers. Except... Robbie seems to make it sound a little... erm... smutty. Never thought the monkey in the song and the straighten-up and FLY right, and Papa don't you BLOW your top sounds so... erm... WRONG???

I think I am going mad today...

Good heavens, some people have deprived childhoods, don't they?

This was sung by Fred Astaire originally, not Tony Bennett.

In fact there are hardly any on your list which are the original or most popular versions.

The point is, maybe the pro dancers chose Tony Bennett's version, no?

Possibly, but it is always Fred Astaire who comes to mind when the song is played.

That's one of the problems we have today. Very few modern artists write their own songs, they simply copy old favourites (nothing wrong there) but today's youngsters (anyone under 40) seem to think they are originals.

Top hat by Fred Astaire was great and Emma Bunton's version of Eso Besso is a travesty.

Still not long on this world...LOL

Love this song, fantastic.

Surely 'Makin' Whoppee' will be AS too.

I'm a tad worried about These Boots Are Made For Walking - I assume it will be Samba but it doesn't seem to work wonderfully well...

Much better songs this week than last. There are a few really decent songs. Looking forward to Saturday even more now.

Dancing Queen is more of a showdance tune

Love the spanish songs and the oldies for the AS

These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra
Love this song but isn't it too slow for the samba?

I would have said that too

Not what I would call an AS or a samba tune

At least there are a few standards in there thank God!

I must be going barmy, when I saw the OP's list and read Emma Bunton, I thought, no, she was last year, is this an old thread.....

Hey.... don't shoot the messenger - copied and pasted straight from the BBC site!

Are they going to get through the whole of Robbie's swing album this series?

I was amazed when they used Gimme Gimme Gimme for a tango-it's more Cha Cha

Presuming the spilt is:

Samba:
Eso Beso – Emma Bunton
More Than A Woman - Tavares
These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra
Mujer Latina - Thalia
Dancing Queen - ABBA

American Smooth:
Makin' Whoopee - Dinah Washington
(Love Is) The Tender Trap - Frank Sinatra
For Once In My Life - Michael Buble
Straighten Up And Fly - Robbie Williams
Top Hat, White Tie And Tails - Tony Bennett
Stay With Me - Deborah Bonham (? It's the only one I haven't heard of)

Then there some blinding AS songs - as there usually are to be honest, it's one they tend to get right 99% of the time - and some mixed Samba songs. Dancing Queen and More Than A Woman are admittedly great dancing songs but a little too disco for the Samba. These Boots Are Made For Walking doesn't seem carnival/party enough for the Samba.

Yes but they've specified the Michael Buble version which is swing and therefore AS.

Here you go for anyone who's never heard this version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hOuMB_m-RA

I'll bet you 50p that Kelly & Brendan are using Fred Astaire - she'll come out looking like a Hollywood glamour queen with Brendan in black tails and it'll be brill.
