Value for money

Ask a stupid question

But what should we expect for our money

If we go for the cheaper makes do we expect to have problems, but then you can have problems with expensive models

In my case in January I bought the Goodman’s Pvr GHD8015F2 £99.50 from Asda after a few months it started to freeze, took it back in may had a replacement – no problem from Asda, and was really happy with it. And now my second box has the odd problem

(I wouldn’t buy from Argos as they dont like returns)

But now I want a bigger hard drive, I have seen the ‘Onn’ brand (80 Hours record time) from Asda £97 I have read a few things on here and it sounds promising but I don’t want to be exchanging my Goodman’s for a poorer model and especially if the Goodman’s may now be an old or discontinued model.

I don’t know much on the technical side of things apart from the basics.
So it makes me wonder what we actually pay for.
If we buy the cheaper products should we expect problems or the odd bug or should it be problem free for at least the year of the guarantee.

Can these bugs or problems with these pvrs be sorted out from an update or download?

Every product you read about has its good and bad points, and buyers are more likely to give negative feedback than good
The more you look the harder it is - or is that just me

I agree, they are still costing almost £100 so should really function as described. It's also infuriating to find features on an older model better than those on newer ones, also to find that all manufacturers are basing their product on the same core machine so there is no real choice!
I'm very pleased with my Digihome DTR80 but just wish that it had some time padding on recordings rather than rely on accurate recording which is a bit hit and miss. Just a simple little software add-on to extend recording time would be great...please?
