Has anybody used a slingbox with a digihome PVR.

It's not on the list of supported devices, but then neither are many that it does work with.

Slingmedia don't seem the slightest bit interested in helping me. They seem to think that I sould buy a box to try and then be stuck with an expensive door stop if it doesn't work.

Ah, wikipedia says it's a converter/streamer of sorts then, and you basically need the remote support, no? There's a 48M download on their site for the uk. Won't there be a list of supported boxes in there somewhere?

I have a slingbox and dont mind giving it a go with one of those PVRs after the weekend if you are still unsure by then.

Not me, t'other bloke. But out of interest can this box be used stand alone, with say an iPlayer, or does it need to go through a PC?

to explain,

In simple terms, what the slingbox does, is to take the TV signal from your home aerial, demux it and transmit one channel down your home broadband internet connection to a remote PC somewhere else in the world (connected to the internet). (And, of course, you can control which channel from the far end.)

You don't need a PC at the home end except during initial configuration.

Optionally, you can feed the output from a PVR [1] into the slingbox and control said device with an IR sending device included in the (cardboard) box. You have to program this IR sender to match the signal required by your PVR, but instead of a 'learning' mode this is done by selection from a list.

There is a list of supported devices on the SlingMedia web page.

The issue that I have is that the Didihome (or any of the Vestel clones) are not on that list, but then neither, as far as I can see, are any of the UK available PVRs, some of which it is known to work with.

So what I would like to know is, can the slingbox be made to work with the Digihome by selecting something else (or is Digihome actually in the list in the box), or failing that, is there a similarly priced, easily available, PVR that I can use instead. I really don't want to go out and buy a Toppy for this task.

On initial checks remotely, when I go into the slingbox set up to control another device, i cant see these digihome PVRs or anything obviously looking like a t810 or t186 clone. But I'll try a few - does anyone know if all the clones use the same remote control signals or are they different between brandings of the same clone PVR?

I was using it with the Humax PVR this weekend. Worked suprising OK on the train too but it took a few minutes to optimise the performance. The PVR is being sold by Dixons for £167 but this one may be overkill for you.

One poster on the Evesham thread mentions his Digihome and Evesham boxes respond to the same remote, so I imagine all t816s do.

Yes, helpful in the sense that it shows the box can be user programmed (in which case why don't sling media say so?)

No so helpful in that I can't PM the guy due to some bug in the system not allowing me to actually add any text to the message. Can you (you don't actually need to get as far as sending before realising whether it is or isn't working)?

I see the RC files are available for download from the Sling Communities site noted above. Has anybody tried them ? I am taking delivery of of a Slingbox later this week and would like to link it to my vestel (Evesham 160) PVR. Do they work ?

My first post in DigitalSpy in a long time, and first time in this forum so I thought I'd start by resurrecting an old thread.

I'm looking to see if anyone has had any joy getting a Hitachi HDR081 (or any other Vestel T816 based PVRs such as a Digihome DTR 160) to work correctly with a slingbox? The slingbox is excellent for use with my BT Vision box, even showing an identical remote control when viewing through a PC. I can view the output of the Hitatchi HDR081 and have limited control using Other & Code 3, but that only grants access to the STB features not the PVR features.
