I notice that Len Goodman has been waging a "quiet " war against this to no avail. Indeed Tony Dovolani shrugged him off and said Len clearly doesn't know the difference between Ballroom and the International Standard. Even in Latin which is generally more free and allows some room for personal interpretation there is still a lack of content.

4) Pros: The pros themselves leave much to be desired in my view. Ian, Camilla, Lillia, Darren could take all the DWTS pros to school when it comes to chereography. I don't know what the DWTS pros are like in their professional dances but some of their chereography with their celebrity partners sometimes verges on comical (Tony Dovolani lifted the disco scene from Saturday Night Fever almost lock stock and barrel for the series 2 freestyle final with his partner Staci Keibler). And I'm convinced Maksim Chmerkovsky (hope I spelt that right) must work part time as a stripper as he takes his kit off at any given opportunity”

Len was asked stateside how did he compare UK and USA celebrity dance standards. He said Americans had the edge.

The obvious way to settle this is a transatlantic shootout, a dance-off at sundown. The 3 best couples from each country to perform 2 dances each in London, then the same 6 couples to perform 2 different dances in LA. The series to be called

"Dance with the Strict Stars"

or

"Dance until you see stars".

And that's why I love him so much!!!

Sorry about this, I have called myself shallow on other threads, so this explains that!!

I have said before that I like the DWTS camera work and band better but I also want to agree with those who have said that the judges are too keen on dishing out 10s willy-nilly on DWTS.
There was a lot of 10s last time on DWTS for dances which would have probably only gotten an 8 on SCD.

They do give higher marks on dwts, but as long as the they mark the best dancer (as they see them) the highest, and the weakest dancer the lowest, I can't see that it matters. Also - I'll let you into a trade secret: On dwts the judges get to watch the last rehearsal, and they mark that, and write their comments accordingly. This is why, occasionally, their comments don't seem to tally with a performance.....

I'm told they DON'T do this on Strictly, but I'm not convinced..

Apparently there are 26 countries worldwide with versions of Strictly. How about a programme with the winners from all their latest series getting together for a grand show? The winner of the Russian show danced in the Eurovision Dance Contest, and was great. Maradonna once danced in the Italian version! He was perfectly dreadfully awful, but I bet he was fun!!

Of course he did, he was asked on US television! I've also read him saying the reverse in an interview over here, as the celebs are taught more technique in our version.

However, on the whole I don't think it is necessary to compare the shows. Both are great and both suit their respective audience.

Just bumping this thread for tonight's show, let's hope the webcam's working.

Also remember that our clocks went back and the US don't put their's back until next weekend so the show will be starting midnight our time instead of 1.00am.

Watch the webcam not be working just when the show's on at a more reasonable time ..lol
