Is there anywhere else I can buy music from for my iPod or does it have to be itunes? Just wondering if there was anything more competitive.

I would look for stores that sell music in mp3 format, or DRM FREE aac.

I used emusic for a while, but it's not for everyone, you won't find many top 40 artists on there, a lot of indie stuff, and it's a subscription model so you can be paying monthly for the service but struggling to find anything you really want.

Itunes isn't that bad, you can easily back up your purchases onto a CD or DVD and burn track to a CD to play back without too many restrictions, I have three pc's in different locations carrying my itunes music store purchases which I synchronise regularly using only my ipod, try doing any of that with music purchased from a windows drm infested 'plays for sure' music store..

Thanks mikeydb,

After looking at their website I decided I may as well take out the trial offer to get 25 FREE downloads

You're right about the choice but I did find Pure Cult by The Cult Not sure whether I'll stick with them or not though.

iTMS does take a lot of beating.

Don't forget good old CDs can be imported into MP3/Apple lossless if you prefer - record shops are taking a bit of a beating I guess nowadays...
