En Vogue

Anyone else here like En Vogue - the girl group who inspired the likes of TLC, SWV and Destiny's Child.

I love the girls, think their music is ace and wish they were still as successful today as they were backin the early 90s.

Ru,mour has it tho that the girls are on their way bk, they were kinda doin a stateside Spice Girl reunion but Dawn Robinson packed it in (again) and now Rhona Bennett (the singer who replaced Maxine Jones first time round) is taking her place. Twas on Wikipedia - not the most reliabvle website I know - so now the lineup stands as: Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Maxine Jones and Rhona Bennett.

Did anyone catch their performance of all 4 original members wit Salt N Pepa last year?

They were a top group, very influential, they don't get the respect they deserve. My Lovin' is one of the funkiest records ever in my view. Utterly fabulous groove. It was awesome when it turned up in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - genius!

I remember En Vogue from the mid nineties. They were good.

"Girl Power" at its best.......Hold On is one of those unique songs that really stands apart..........I think it's about 45 seconds of acapella singing at its best before that amazingly odd chugging tune kicks in.
As others have said, they didn't get the respect they were due at the time.

I loved Don't let go and free your mind.

It's a shame they aren't still around, they were very talented.

They getting back together yet?

Current status unknown according to Wikipedia.

They were all technically excellent vocalists, Dawn Robinson in particular. Not an Autotune in sight. They were a group that had a bit of class about them. Imagine them in a sing-off with Girls Aloud or any of the current batch of style over substance girl groups. They'd have the likes of GA for breakfast!

Good to see Dawn Robinson is back with them. She IS En Vogue really. I mean all are exceptional vocalists but Dawn has the personality that the group needs.

btw, her other group, Lucy Pearl, were awesome too. They only released one album before Dawn left (another group, same story lol) so I would love to see them get back together too.

^ Lucy Pearl's album is fab. It's so underrated.

I only really know En Vogue's singles. I haven't bothered to invest much time in their albums, but their singles are fab for the most part, and their vocals and harmonies are flawless.

I love En Vouge, they are one of my favourite girl bands of all time and they certainly give the rest i.e destiny's child, TLC, danity Kane.pussy cat dolls, girls aloud a run for their money. I think any reunion must feature Dawn Robinson.

I also have Lucy Pearl's album which is great.

I used to be into bands like this in the 90s. I really loved Free Your Mind.

I became a big fan of TLC, too.

TLC and En Vogue then turned a little bit... not so good. TLC's last album was terrible.

I would be delighted to hear some new material from them. I'm getting just ever so slightly bored of the contemporary R&B/urban music, particularly as the vocals are quite mediocre at times from most of today's artists. The acapella harmonies that Chickenshit mentions from 'Hold On' (the classic 'Who's Lovin' You' semi cover intro) are a prime example - I haven't heard anything that could begin to be on a par with that this year.

Didn't realise it at the time but we were spoilt for choice in the 90s in some respects.

they were class.

free your mind
don't let go (which was one of those songs like angels and torn which was in the top 10 for ages)
lies
my lovin
too gone too long
whatever
hold on

anyone have their last album - masterpiece theatre where they mixed classical and hip hop?

had a great lead single, the riddle (which also sampled their own my lovin)
