Hi guys, quick question - I am going to buy an iPod Touch over in the states, will everything work ok here?

Eg. Wifi, buying music on iTunes over wifi, etc.

Thanks alot

ditto, and it'll be cheaper and not have the stupid EU volume limit.

...on the mac rumors forum:

EU: How-To: Uncap the volume limit on european iPod Touch models
What you need:

- iPod Touch with Jailbreak "applied"
- a program to edit .plist files (macs come with one or you can use textwrangler)
- Cyberduck (or any other SFTP program)

What to do:

1. Connect to your iPod touch via SFTP
2. copy the following file over to your desktop: /System/Library/Frameworks/Celestial.framework/RegionalVolumeLimits.plist
3. You should see a lot of keys (F, Z, ZD, etc...) with a value of 0.82999999 (or 0.83)
4. Change the value of all keys to "1"
5. Save the file
6. Upload to the original file location on your iPod
7. Power off the iPod (using the red slider) and turn it back on.
8. Enjoy loud music.

Not sure why You're buying it there, you're not really saving much money.

$299 for the 8Gb model = £145
$399 for 16Gb = £194

UK prices are £199/£269

So yes, decent savings if you are in the USA anyway. Basically the 16Gb model for the UK price of the 8Gb model - sounds good to me!

Don't forget sales tax - probably an extra $25-35 on the 16gb.

Ooooh - thanks for that - it annoys me that the sound isn't that loud

Will try tomorrow...

you need these passwords:

1- For host name enter your IP address. To find this connect ur ipod to a wireless internet. Go to settings>wifi> and the blue arrow beside your connection name. You will find your IP address there.
2 - Under Username you type "root"
3 - Under Password you type "alpine"
4 - Your port should be "22"

You're talking about the 8GB. The post you quoted was about the 16GB model.

Firstly you need to jailbreak. Then use an FTP application such as Cyberduck on OS X to access the files on the iPod or iPhone. Then change all the parameters to 1 as EU iPods are all limited to 83%. I would Google around on jailbreaking etc. There is loads of information out there. If you can't understand it then I recommend just not doing it

Thanks for the tip - but I'm pretty sure he's sorted now with it being nearly a year since he asked the question!

BE CAREFUL! This is a very old thread and the exchange rates have changed a lot in the last 12 months.

$299 is now over £200 and $399 is nearly £270 so very unlikely it's going to be cheaper to buy in the US any more.

Why would anyone need to increase the volume? I barely run mine at half volume most of the time and at the loudest my headphones never need to go above 75%.
