Carol and Matthew were not given a 10 for their 3 lifts last year, hence the reason why people as you say didn't pay any attention to it. People are paying attention to Brendan's lifts because he was given a perfect score for an illegal dance

As my earlier comments made clear, I don't need anyone to explain why Bruno was wrong. I KNOW he was wrong.

It's easy to pick on Bruno's indiscretion. I'm simply trying to add a little realism...and I find the defence of Len's 'performance' tonight very revealing.

I'm all in favour of that...except for the fact that I've never seen any 'rules' published.

Sorry if I came across as trying to explain Bruno's actions to you, that wasn't my intention.

I agreed that Len does tend to overmark, but he doesn't give a 10 when a rule break has been blatantly done and has been pointed out by three quarters of the panel. The fact that Bruno also saw the third lift and knows the rules of the show but still gave a perfect score just seems to make the whole show look stupid. If he had given a 9, Brendan and Kelly would still have been happy and there wouldn't be all this discussion on the board.

I agree. Brendan and Kelly should NOT have been given a 10. They broke the rules and rules are rules. Its only gonna encourage them to do it again.

The 10 was stupid. It's not fair on the other dancers and there should be some sort of overrule on the scoring when there are blatent set out rules. Bruno just treats the whole thing as a joke, during one of the dances he was kicking his leg out like the dancers were doing.

Then you need to get yourself a copy of the British Council Rules of Ballroom Dancing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not disagreeing with you, but just to point out three quaters of the judges disagreed with one of them most of the night (not meant at you at Bruno ) he is annoying most of the time, tonight was the last nail in the coffin for me... Just annoyed me so much...

I think they go by the rules for each dance set for professional dance competitions, rather than a special set for this programme.

Bruno should have said "If you'd stuck to the rules like everyone else this would have been a 10" - and then given them a 9. Rewarding or overlooking rule breaking does a disservice to those who observe the rules and is almost certain to provoke bad feeling toward the celebrity from the public.

Yes Bruno did seem to be the odd one out tonight. In the main I can agree with a lot of the points that the other three judges make, Bruno just seems to be in a world of his own and tends to so over-theatrical about everything.

Having watched DWTS in the US where Bruno is a complete drama queen, I'm of the opinion that he doesn't know which side of the Atlantic he's on most of the time. I used to like him, but agree that he's lost the plot.

I guess my issue is with comments like the one I've boldened. It was one extra point...which in reality made very little difference to the final standings. Neither did Len's (IMO worse) over-marking for that matter.

Sorry to have to say this, but every time Brendan has broken the rules in this manner, it has been pointed out, in the strongest terms, that he's done so.

Additionally, he's a professional dancer who has competed in international competitions & therefore has no requirement for such rules to be explained to him at the start of each episode or series of SCD.

I have thought the last 2 series that the judges have handed out 10's with a lot more ease than they did in series 1 & 2. Maybe standard of the dancers at beginning is higher, but now people are offended if they get 7's & 8's. In the first 2 series people hoped to get 7's & 8's.
The rot must have set in during series 3 or maybe 4.

each dance has its own rules but above that I assume there is or should be a set of rules which govern the show. These would be the rules that set out for example

1. that the bottom 2 couples must dance off
2. that the judges score is 50% etc

those are the rules that should say what happens if a couple persistantly flout the rules of ballroom dance. Not that I think this is such a case by the way but if it happened every week, there may be a case for throwing people off the show but its a bit extreme

Really? That would surprise me.

It's RTV. As such, I would expect the 'rules' of 'Strictly' to be extremely vague and highly flexible.

If there are published rules though I would be interested if someone could provide a link.

The final score or placing for Brendan and Kelly doesn't bother me at all they deserved to be marked highly and to be up near the top of the leader board, I guess it's just the principle of breaking the rules and getting a perfect 10.

Why would that surprise you? The dances are choreographed by the pros, who know the rules about what can or cannot be included in each dance. So the official rules govern the content. I think the "vagueness" and/or "flexibility" in the rules is more on the judges marks. Obviously they can't mark the celebrities the same as they would mark two professionals dancing, so there has to be some leeway.
Even so, I think the fact that we were told on Sunday's show and during ITT during the week that only two lifts were allowed, should have given Brendan and Kelly some clue

As a Brendan fan I have registered my disappointment in the three lifts...so I'm not going to say anymore on that..it was a beautiful dance it didn't need this...but as to Bruno I'm so damn angry at him

I think the problem is that Brendan has been told about this repeatedly on more than one season. Maybe not every week, but it makes it unfair to the people that play fair - basically to flout the rules (Im not talking about a case where the foot accidentally comes off floor) is cheating and should be treated as such. It is Brendan's fault he's the pro, but Kelly went along (as did other partners in past) so both should have dedcutions made or for repeated offenses be booted off as cheats. Bruno for not enforcing rules, should be booted off as a judge. He is more in the wrong than the dancers.

About overmarking the worse dancers, it really matters very little at the bottom of the table about 1 or 2 points - and if you take into consideration the humiliation factor of the nasty personal comments from the judges, maybe they deserve an extra point here and there.
