Shock Horror? Give me a Break!

We have this every year, many posters seem distressed that particular couples who they think should have stayed in, are effectively voted out by the public .

The differences in performances are discussed and whether this or that couple's choregraphy or presentation was worth more or less marks.

A few think it's a dance competition.

It's not it's a "show." The whole format is contrived by the producers to produce the results we get, right up to the final.

It's a popularity contest!

The reason for its huge rating success isn't despite everything that's wrong with it, but because of it.

You'd think some would be able to work that out after five series, wouldn't you?

By the way, the charity element in the phone vote is principally to encourage viewers to vote.
Without it even more viewers who enjoy this "show" wouldn't bother to vote at all. I’ve watched every “show” in every series and enjoyed them and I’ve watched most of the SCDITT programmes and I've never voted once.

Incidently I believe SCDITT has “gone off” this year, more so even than last year.
It appears that Claudia has been "reined in" and "muzzled" even more by the producer, the latter only occasionally slipping off.
The programme is the lesser for it.

But it is the BBC...

I noticed last night that Tess referred to the participants as "the cast" ... a Freudian slip?

the fieresome loyalty to some sleb dancers is admirable but to me at the end of the day its an entertainment show, it doesnt matter who gets voted out or when and doesn't mean if the favourite goes earlier than expected they're the worst dancers.

just get people phoning and voting for charity. yes some of the results are suprising and maybe unjust but if that's who te public vote for then thats that.

I posted in a similar vein on another thread and got disagreed with - I do think people take the results etc a little too seriously IMHO

absolutely a show but it must be disheartening for slebs who work hard to improve and then find its hasn't helped their cause..

Der Chef says

If people ultimately want to phone premium rate numbers because they are incensed that somebody is being likened to the "beasts of the field" thats fine by me.

My only take on things is after these "events"

I could see alot more training footage with

Clowning
Crying in the corner "saying I cant cope"
Bust ups and make ups 5 minutes later
Pseudo sexual tension
Nans, offspring and pets arriving

and much less trying to get a routine right as thats uncool

Ohhh Yeah

Most of us on here do tend to navel gaze a bit - well not our own navels, but every word out of the mouths of celebs/pros/judges/newspapers/butcher/baker/candlestick maker is analysed beyond recognition.
