Yesterday, Kelly and Brendon broke the rules by doing one too many lifts--(though i wouldn't classify the last one as a lift as it sucked).
Anyways, i don't really understand what the punishment, if there was or is one.

At first i thought it was deducting a pint but the Bruno gave them a undeserved 10 so now i am even more confused

Please help me understand

Thanks x

yep, you're supposed to have points deducted which Graig, Arlen and Len did. Muppet Bruno was being his idiot self again and gave them a 10. (probably still suffering from jet-lag me thinks.)

From last night's example, it would appear that the rules fluctuate - depending on who breaks them.

Bruno most likely did not notice there were 3 lifts. The judges award the scores before they give their comments so there was no way he could change his score when he realised they'd done something illegal. He wasn't being a rebel as some others think - he knows zilch about Ballroom and Latin so I reckon he completely missed the "mistake"

Nothing happens

THe judges will moan but idiots (Bruno) will still score them the maximum points.

I generally think Brendan gets an unfair bashing here but I would have given them only 1 point if I'd been a judge last night - see if Brendan does it again after that.

He wasn't penalised so has no reason to not break the rules every week now

Just wondering did the 3 judges last night deduct 2 points for the rule break - some of them suggested they might have given a 10, or do you think they actually only deducted 1, and would have given 9s in fact.

In a similar vein was it worthy of 40 (3rd lift aside) as they suggested?

I think the rule they used was to deduct 1 point.

They are supposed to deduct points (as punishment), but like megadancer said, the rules seem to change depending on who dances

It certainly wasn't a 40 dance. IMO (although there is no way of telling) they deducted 1 point for the lift and one point for the missed heel leads/ lack of body contact, I expect that's how Len marked it anyway. IMO it was a 9 dance without the lift, 8 with it.

Current procedure is to call the individual a doughnut and then give him a really high score.

Alternatively you can give the rule-breaker a really severe punishment and award them a 10. Then watch their morale crumble into despair so that they never do it again!

What ARE the 'rules' as they pertain to SCD?

Surely this is the starting point...and yet I've never seen these legendary 'rules'. It's tempting to conclude that any 'rules' that do exist are vague, flexible and exist mainly in the minds of judges and some viewers.

Lots of talk about lifts...but what's supposed to happen when a couple perform a Samba that isn't really a Samba for example?

Interesting - is this true

We see them dance then move straight over to the judges for their comments so how are the scores done beforehand? Anyway even if they are Craig, Arlene and Len gave their scores first and pointed out the illegal move so theres no excuse for Bruno imo.

He made a complete idiot of himself. Wheres the incentive for any of them to follow the rules now? I dread to think what this will do to Brendans ego now.

As soon as the dance is finished (whilst the couple are walking over to Bruce) the judges have to submit their scores by pressing the relevant button in front of them (numbered 1 - 10) THEN they give their comments - it's so the production team have time to do the graphic for the screen when the judges hold up their paddles. So, if Bruno didn't see or didn't know about the third lift he gave them 10 THEN it was pointed out by the other judges by which time it was too late for Bruno to change his score.

I also think that if Bruno had seen the lift he would have said something in his comments.

I'm finding it hard to work out/ decide who did worse - bruno or brendan. (Personally I don't place fault at Kelly).

Brendan blatently and purposely broke a rule. It wasn't like a little slip up or accidental error as rule breaks in life often are! So thats pretty serious I think.

But then it could be said that some poeple will always push their luck, see what they can get away with etc and thats what the judges are there for - to point it out to us, and to penalise them. So why didn't Bruno deal with it as the others did. Bizarre.

eta. of course this thing about bruno having not noticed it maybe puts a new angle on things, and makes me think Bruno isn't quite the plonker I thought he was!

Thanks Puffle. Thats why i love these forums - you learn something new every day

I still say he made a complete idiot of himself though. As a total and utter dance novice who only started watching the show last year even i noticed the 3 lifts so i find it hard to believe a so called "expert" didn't.

I feel sorry for the other contestants having to put up with such blatant favouritism

If Bruno didn't see three lifts he should not be judging !

on the basis of prcedent.

Craig and Arlene knock two points off for every transgression.

Bruno leaps into the air screeching 'I can't help myself' (so no actually change to the norm) and gives a ten.

Len calls you a muppet.

Hardly five years hard labour is it?

[quote=pasodabble;18971041]Bruno most likely did not notice there were 3 lifts.

Bruno did notice the three lifts but just said 'I can't help myself ..' and then gave a 10 This is the first time that one judge has ignored this rule and not deducted points.

Rules are rules and if a professional dancer repeatedly breaks them he should be punished, Kelly also confirmed that she knew it was against the rules! - this is not the first time Brendan has done this - and I'm not anti Brendan

Yes SCD Angel well he had to say something to explain the 10 he was about to hold up which he couldn't change as I mentioned on 'Bruno was wrong' thread last night and others have mentioned above.

However this brings into question his competence to judge this show as dayglo pointed out

...although it is only loosely based on competition rules as Endomoniada has repeatedly said

I still say he made a complete idiot of himself though. As a total and utter dance novice who only started watching the show last year even i noticed the 3 lifts so i find it hard to believe a so called "expert" didn't.
Indeed...Bruno is not an expert in standard ballroom...the only one there who could be called adequately experienced to judge would be Len Goodman...the others are choreographers and have been learning as they a la 'Standard Ballroom 101
