PDR-RXD1065 - Updating during the night
granville1957

My Sony PDR-RXD 1065 starts up for about 10-20 minutes at about 4am. As the machine is in a bedroom this can be very annoying as the fan noise can keep you awake.
I have disabled the auto search for software updates function and I have been advised that the EPG updates take place during the day. Can anyone advise why it is doing this and if there anyway (apart from turning the power off) that this can be stopped or the time changed.

The Guideplus epg downloads twice in a 24 hour period.
3am and 7pm
You could try switching, to the digital epg,if you don't have any additional analogue equipment connected.
Have you set the power save standby to ON,as that reduces the number of times the fan switches on automatically.

Is this a PVR?, because I thought the digital EPG downloaded over night as well?.

I assumed that granville1957 was refering to the RDR-HDX 1065(HDD/DVD Recorder),which comes with Guideplus.
The times given refer to the Guideplus epg,not the Digital epg.

Correct its a RDR-HDX 1065(HDD/DVD Recorder) with guideplus. Not sure how/if I can switch to digital EPG and there does not appear to be a power save fuction. Any other ideas? Cheers.

I was going on the assumption that the RDR-HDX1065 had the option to switch epgs and had the power save function, like the RDR-HXD870,but clearly not after browsing the manual.

Maybe you could replace the fan with a quieter one,or as some Digifusion owners have done, unplugged the fan and made holes in the casing for ventilation(drastic step,I know)
Check out the Digifusion threads.

You are aware that you won't get the EPG if you do that?.

Here is the officail reply I got from Sony

"Thank you for contacting Sony Regarding your RDR-HXD1065 DVD-Recorder.

I can confirm that the activity your DVD-Recorder is engaging in at 4am each evening is not the EPG/Guide+ updating nor is it downloading software updates.

The reason why the device turns on each night is to manage any commands that have been entered into it, programs that you have set to be recorded for example. I can confirm that there is no way to disable this, but it is perfectly normal.

I hope this information helps".
