iphone, contracts and buying question
Anubis

I'm very curious about buying an iphone when its released in the UK. i've never had a contract before and always stuck with payas you go phones.

However the amount i top up, contract works out better. £35 is reasonable to me per month.

However, i'm concerned -might be because i'm stupid.
The iphone costs £269 - which you pay. Now.. does paying £35 a month pay that phone off? or do you have to pay the lump sum of £269 at first, then £35 a month after to pay for services?

Hope i make sense. thanks!

£269 pays for the iPhone

£35 per month pays for the service

First Month cost - £304. subsequent months £35.

Couldn't agree more.... far cheaper to buy one, unlock it and use it on any network you like (with a much cheaper contract or pay as you go!)

Indeed.

£35 for 200 texts, 200 minutes, & 200 MB is a joke. And then you're stuck with them for 18 months...

ok new question - if i managed to get the phone unlocked from somewhere - will i be able to use my o2 pay as you go sim?
as i've heard apple updates screw the phone up if you get it unlocked.
or wont i need it unlocked to use an o2 payasugo sim?

The current iPhone is running software version 1.1.1 and can be bought unlocked on ebay for under £300, you can then put any sim in (contract or pay as you go) and you are away.

When the phone comes out in the UK it will be running software version 1.1.2 and that cannot yet be unlocked but it won't be long. I will be getting one unlocked and putting pay as you go or cheaper contract in it.
