Any faint hopes that this competition was somehow connected to the ability to dance have now been banished, and this ludicrous result simply renders the show as completely meaningless. We all know that the B.B.C. does all in its power to provoke as much controversy as possible, thus attracting maximum publicity, but could they have had a hand in this somewhere along the line? Don't put it past them!

Am so annoyed. I know why Penny and Gabby were in the bottom though - because they were on the middle of the board - the top of the board were safe cos of their scores - the bottom had their fans thinking they needed saving (which they did)

That result just has to be fixed. How on earth could two of the best couples be in the bottom two in the first place? Both the girls are popular as well as very accomplished dancers - I suspect Auntie Beeb has been fiddling around again to get more publicity.

I was so angry at this.
How on earth do the likes of Kate and Kenny get throgh who are the worse dancrs every week, and should have been out in hte first round manage to get through and two of the very best dancers end up in hte bottom
I wouldn't mind if this was hte real way the votes swang that they rigged it so Kate went, after what it said in one of the newspapers the judges are angry with the way the voting is going.

Because they have never been hugely popular and the comments of some judges towards the likes of Kate, Kenny and John inflated their public vote.
I had a feeling that Gabby was heading for the bottom two bearing in mind her rather precarious position on the board. Surprised Penny had so little support though - seems she just slipped under the radar for many last night.
Once again we see this pathetic attitude of the British, who will vote for the worst, just to annoy the judges. You can see it in many other phone-in competitions, remember the Mc'Donald brothers last year in X-Factor.
Last night we again saw two of the better dancers have to dance off, to suit the sick and sad who voted for a person who may suffer for her dancing. This is one of the reasons why I decided to stop watching, because it became embarrassing rather then entertaining.

It is not only a dance competition it is a popularity contest.
Both Gabby and Penny came across as a bit desperate, neither of them took the critisism (whether you believe it was warranted or not) very well. The GBP usually support the underdog, we also like people with self depreciating humour like Kate and Kenny. Never underestimate the likeability factor.

It's madness and really makes me want to stop watching. I feel so sorry for the professional dancers who put in so much effort - they may wonder what's the point in bothering? Be cr@p every week and your place in the final is assured.

I thought Gabby showed tonight that if the criticism is justified, she can take it. Her disappointment in week one was when she thought the judges were unfair. To do her justice, many people agreed with her.
However the real travesty is that, when Gabby was in the bottom two with Penny, the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Because Penny and Kelly have been touted as the big names of this series, they were never going to be voted out early by the judges, no matter how badly they performed.

You are very funny indeed (and so diplomatic and non-offensive to the other forumites, I'm sure you made lots of friends on here
). Actually I think that Gabby and Penny took criticism well enough, and they shouldn't have gone out. However this is entirely due to the lack of support from their fan base. Maybe it's not really a dance competition but a "dialling competition". If you feel so strongly, maybe you should spend your time voting instead of slacking off people for voting the wrong couple. Just an idea. Entirely up to you, because I believe in everybody's right of choice.
I just think it's such a shame that we had to lose one of the better couples. Gabby (or Penny should she have gone) would have surely gone on to give very good performances, but now I must sit and watch the likes of her husband stumbling around.

Well, you did make me chuckle. I am afraid I watch this show to enjoy it. I don't take it very seriously, I don't vote nor am I ever likely to.
You are certainly in to making whopping assumptions, I was discussing two women as it was two women who were in the dance off, why would I bring any other dancers into it?
My favourite so far this season is a woman and my second favourite is a man, I thought I was being pretty even handed, and they are not Kate and Kenny.
Bit laughable really!
Both those performances in the 'Dance-Off' would have earned 9 or even 10's!

I wouldn't call Penny one of the "best" - not on the lacklustre performances she's turned in so far. A great exaggeration - just like the marks she receives from the judges.
Both performances were similar to those they gave originally - Gabby's far, far superior in every way.

I don't see what all the fuss is about? DJ Spooney's departure was just as shocking last year and nobody made a fuss about that.
Sure, Kate must have fans, but SCD is no fix. X Factor is, SCD most certanly isn't.
Gabby was 6th with the Judges, and many people have a "love/hate" relationship with her, me included.
The viewers probably thought she was safe, and didn't bother to vote, so voted for someone like John or Kenny to boost their morale.
It's no fix, It's just like Spooney last year.

Its to do with voting demographics. You have four really good female dancers - those interested in the best dancer winning have their votes split between the four of them and that is why two of the best dancers were in the bottom two. All the others have independent demographics e.g Kate is getting the feel sorry for her, at least she gives us a laugh vote, Dom the Cheeky chappie lilia vote, John the "he dances like a bloke" vote, Matt the phwaw vote, Kenny the scottish vote etc. The four girls although great dancers have little else to pull in the votes unfortunately.
Gabby is just too "competitive for a girl" it makes her look hard and doesn't endear her to the public which doesn't help her cause either.

There is little doubt that this competition is swayed by the huge number of female voters who vote for certain men, regardless of their partner's performance or ability. That is why Anton stays in the competition in spite of having a totally incapable partner. Conversely, Gabby was in the dance-off because the majority of female viewers do not like the Jordan fellow, following his harsh treatment of former partners.
However, from a dancer's point of view there was no justice in these so-called judges choosing the Boots woman instead of Gabby. Gabby's samba was much more authentic and true to the dance and, in any proper dance competition, would have won easily. Craig had it right. Len Goodman? -- do me a favour.
