There she stands each week, a picture of beauty, elegance and refinement - she begins to talk and for a moment she sounds fairly posh, until she utters those imortal words, "Let's look at this week's cawples!" and "Now it's over to the Jawdges for their scores!" Always makes me smile.

Got a problem with regional accents?
Oh come on Jill - not at all, I love them and have a broad one myself. My entire family are from Leeds, Liverpool, Scotland, and Ireland to name but a few. I'm sorry I caused offense.

I have to say, coming from the North-West myself, I can't equate 'cawples' with anything that comes out of Tess's mouth (or indeed mine).

I wasn't having a go - I don't hear the alleged 'aw' sound, I hear an 'uh' sound.

I, as a Northerner myself, find this thread offensive. Tess doesn't pronounce them like that at all, more cuhples and juhdges, as most Northern people do. She's from Bolton or surrounding area isn't she? Very broad accent there!

I think it's nice to have regional accents - variety is the spice of life! Tess sounds down to earth and approachable!

Coming from Dahn sarf and often having to listen to an 'Estry' lilt in the language, I love a Yorshire accent.

I love Tess and her accent!

Can't understand why she gets so much flak on this forum.

Tess has got a lovely and perfectly normal Lanky accent - I used to live up there and heard it a lot - at least she doesn't put on a fake RP accent for the show!

I don't mind accents, as long as I can understand them.

I don't know why people (not just on this forum, but on others too) keep on picking on Tess' accent.
I'm from the North of England and its nice to hear more people with Northern accents on tv more.
You don't hear people commenting on how Bruce and most of the judges say 'Strictly Come "D-ahn-cing" do you?

Just might be that her husband has a little to do with the show. Might be interesting if anyone could find out about the production company, who's got shares in the set-up etc.!

Tess does a great job without fluffing her lines like poor Bruce.
How many fluffs does he make week after week, but Bruce must stay, cant bear to think of a replacement.

LOL at the OP. I agree that she is really annoying. Nothing against regional accents (I'm from the NW) or her personally, (I used to like her on SMTV) but she is bloody awful on SCD.

I usually watch it after it's started (on the sky+) and try and FF through her. I think it gets under your skin because she's so repetitive, I know the format is rigid, but so is her delivery. And my teeth gnash even more in the results show when we have her draped over the balcony introducing the dance off !
