How to stop being hot-headed/short tempered
Hi there
This is a bit of a daft one really but wondered what tips people have on trying to become less short tempered/hot headed. I am not too bad but I do sometimes react a bit more hot-headedly to stuff than I would like and now that I have children I want to make sure I set them a good example by trying to be more calm about things but its not really in my nature so how do I train myself? I obviously have heard the advise about counting to 10 before reacting but his does not work for me as if something happens I react straightaway instinctively before I think to start counting and only afterwards do I feel a bit and wish that I handled it a bit better.Don't get me wrong, this is not happening all the time, but more than I would like with impressionable kids at home with me. Any tips? Ogg |

Since starting teaching I've had to learn to control my temper in difficult situations. Sometimes, when I can feel myself getting really mad with somebody, I force myself to be excessively nice to them instead. Big smile.
It's strange, but then I always feel like I'm being the bigger person, and as well as defusing the situation, it often freaks your opponent out!

whenever you can, walk away from a confrontation and give yourself time to think instead of acting on instinct.

Anyone can control their temper. Think about the times and places you have not been allowed or free to lose it.
