I am looking to purchase a reasonably priced recorder which will allow me to download eg. football then transfer this from the hard drive to a disc. Can anyone please recommend a reliable machine at a reasonable cost. I don't mind if it's an older model. I'm not sure what to purchase.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks Jk.

Do you have Sky+? If not then Sky+ and a non HDD DVDR would be better than just an HDD DVDR. Of course Sky+ and HDD DVDR is even better.

Panasonics are reliable, simple to operate machines. Just make sure it can record RGB on one of its scarts.

Interesting idea! - Panasonic recorders have a terrible reputation for power supply problems.

Have your's got HDD as well as DVD? - most of the problems were on the HDD/DVD models. Essentially the PSU wasn't very well designed, and they then added an HDD without improving the PSU, and the extra load means they don't last very long at all

Thanks for the replies. I already have Sky plus, but I also use a Technomate receiver for my motorised sat. system and want to be able to record from this receiver.

Many thanks Jk.

I recently purchased a Sony RDR-HXD870 HDD/DVD and it's fantastic. It was £199: http://www.totaldigital.biz/index.ph...oducts_id=2195

I'm in a similar situation. My DVD player has packed up so I'm looking at replacing it with a recorder so I can record programmes that I want to keep from my PVR. Nothing fancy needed, I don't have HD, and don't need it to have a TV tuner built in.

Recommend older/cheaper Pioneer DVR-420H etc. only has analogue tuner but around £70 on eBay - has a hard disc which is very useful, as well as DVD recorder. Altogether excellent and very good editing facilities on HDD or DVD-RW (only DVD-R/W)

We also have Sony RDR-GXD360 DVD recorder with good digital tuner/quick EPG (records DVD-R/W or DVD+R/W, but no HDD and not quite so flexible) Although you do not need it, recording from its own tuner/EPG might occasionally be useful, or at 8pm when you might want three digital progs at once!
