Back when the Foo Fighters had a sense of humour and Dave Grohl hadn't yet replaced singing with screaming, they made some funny videos. (Learn To Fly, Breakout etc.) Why is it that in every one of the videos made during their "funny" period, they felt the need to interrupt the flow of the video with footage of the band playing live? It's just unnecessary. Did they think we'd forget that they're a band if they got too funny in the videos? "Hey, we've got a sense of humour, but we're a successful band and we can fill big venues. Yeah. Look, here's a shot of us filling a big venue. Don't forget it. We're the Foo Fighters, and you're not."

Guys, we know you're a band. We know you rock hard and kick ass and stagedive etc etc. We don't need reminding with some wanky shots of you playing live, jumping about and generally being a band. The video can stand on its own.

It wouldn't be so bad if the shots of them playing live were interesting. What we have in the videos is just a big list of rock cliches. Waving lighters... check. Crowdsurfing... check. Energetic guitary stuff... check. Drummer acting like a dick... check.

Yes I have been watching The Hits.

They didn't have any live footage in Everlong (my fave! Gondry is a directing god).
They had a bit of performance at the end, but it fitted well with the rest of the vid.

I hope your rant helped you calm down a bit!

Yep, the video for Everlong is one of my all-time favourites, but I'm also a fan of pretty much everything Michel Gondry touches.
